It seems they resolved the issue in the second hour but the first hour they skipped a bunch of song and cut to commercials during songs. KOLA was one of my go to stations to listen to the Countdown but I think I’m done with that station.

Paula & Paula: Abdul Jabbar exploded on the scene for a couple albums but quickly went Crazy Cool and vanished for a couple decades until reappearing on 'Idol but that couldn't get her back on the charts. Cole had a couple monster hits. I Don't Want To Wait probably still gets as much if not more airplay than any song of the period. But maybe she confused her fans with her followup wondering how she become a Band trading in the Lilith Fair sound for a discoy flavored first single. Paula Abdul went from Hitmaker to the “crazy lady from American Idol”. In the late 80s and early 90s almost everything Paula touched turned to gold. She had four number ones from her debut album “Forever Your Girl”…the aforementioned song, “Straight Up”, “Cold Hearted” and “Opposites Attract”. Six number ones in total. Then she took a couple years off and that was it. When she returned in 1995 with “Head Over Heels” she had one last hit…”My Love Is For Real” which peaked at #28, a failure for Paula. By 1995 music had changed dramatically from the dance pop of Paula Abdul to more serious singer songwriters like Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette and Jewel. The next time we saw her was on American Idol when she was the “nice” judge.

I thought Casey’s story about Terri Nunn (of Berlin) going to college to get her degree “by mail” was amusing because of course there was no internet back then but I was thinking how much easier for Nunn it would’ve been to do it online especially when you’re obviously touring. Oh well, hopefully everything worked out and she got her degree.

Was that one of the only times AT40 played the intro to Michael Jackson’s “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You?”. The spoken word intro “A lot of people misunderstand me/I just want to touch you and hold you..”. I don’t remember if they’ve ever played the version with the spoken word intro. It as nice that Siedah Garrett got her own spotlight. She’s a talented singer/songwriter. She co-wrote Jackson’s 4th #1 off then “Bad”, “Man In The Mirror” with Glen Ballard. Rumour has it Prince was invited to sing on “Bad” but he objected to the opening line “Your butt is mine”. Barbara Streisand and Whitney Houston were also invited to duet with Michael but also declined.

Related to the same countdown, whether it's unpopular or not I'll say that Berlin's earlier "No More Words" and "The Metro" (not a top 40 hit) are much better songs than the boring chart topper "Take My Breath Away". Very much agree regarding Berlin -- "No More Words" and "The Metro" were both better songs, as was another well known non-top 40 hit "Masquerade". As for Nu Shooz, I am a big fan of both "Point Of No Return" and "I Can't Wait", but I wouldn't say the former is a better song at all than the latter. I've always been a big fan of "I Can't Wait"...just IMHO. (also as a footnote, I am a big fan of their 1988 top 40 near-miss "Should I Say Yes") ITA with you on “No More Words”. “Take My Breath Away” obviously gets all the attention but “No More Words” is a great song. As for Nu Shooz they narrowly avoided being a one bit wonder band but just barely.

Yeah! I’m so happy that “Holiday” by The Other Ones is an extra. It’s such a great albeit obscure weird song. But it’s so d**n catchy.

Unpopular opinion:Point Of No Return by Nu Shooz is a much better song than the higher charting and better known I Can’t Wait.

Wikipedia says that "In Your Eyes" recharted in 1989 after its inclusion in the movie "Say Anything"-This time,it peaked at # 41. Indeed it did, the week ending July 8. Heard it a lot that summer, surprised it didn't once again make the 40. In one of those similar title coincidences, three weeks later Stevie B peaked at 37 with "In My Eyes". I love “In Your Eyes”. It’s one of those songs that never gets old for me. You would think it was Top 10 given how popular the 1989 John Cusack movie “Say Anything” and the cultural impact that scene where “In Your Eyes” plays in the background while John Cusack’s character holds a gigantic boombox over his head but that song peaked at #26 in 1986 and then re-released in 1989 and only reaching #41. Back to the 1986 show. I was very entertained by the Paul McCartney and the Chicken story lol.
