Tiny pet peeve. In the 1984 show, there was a dedication from a grandson to his grandfather, very sweet. Except it was “Every Breath You Take” by The Police. Why you ask? Well, sadly the Grandfather had trouble breathing and had to be taken to the hospital and thought for some bizarre reason “Every Breath You Take” was appropriate. Well, it has nothing to do with “breathing” it’s a breakup song or at the very least mildly stalkerish (“Oh can’t you see/You belong to me”). It drives me nuts when people don’t listen to the lyrics. Hello, it’s right there in the Chorus “Every breath you take/Every move you make/I’ll be watching you”. Glad the Grandfather was doing better but couldn’t you have picked a better song?

In this week’s 1984 show a Grandson dedicated “Every Breath You Take” by The Police? Why you ask? Because the Grandfather had trouble breathing 🙄. Another case of not paying attention to the lyrics.

I thought the story about the cheap woman, Hetty Green was interesting (right before “How To Be A Millionaire” by ABC) Although it didn’t seem like Casey was very sympathetic lol. Although the story about her son’s amputated leg seems to be exaggerated.

The word 'or' seems to have disqualified a hit from the list of songs with a time in their title. "25 or 6 to 4" by Chicago is referring to two times not just one which appeared to be the basis of the question. One of the more bizarre trivial notes is part of the chart for this week's show. "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" and "Hungry Like the Wolf" are in their third of 10 consecutive weeks being back to back. Even "Physical" and "Waiting For a Girl Like You" did not accomplish that feat. And no other pair of hits accomplished that feat in the first run of AT40. “25 or 6 To 4” by Chicago was the one I immediately thought of with a specific time in the title. “3AM” by Matchbox 20 is another one I thought of.

In the 1982 show, Casey mentions Diana Ross’ record for having the most number ones of any female. In the 1987 show Casey again mentions Diana Ross but this time it’s 5 years later and Madonna has the most number ones of any female artist (up to that point obviously).

“Send Me An Angel”. Such an underrated song. Should have been a much bigger hit. Should’ve charged higher IMO. It was re-released in 1989 but didn’t get much higher than when it was released in 1984.

On this week's countdown from 1/30/88,Casey read a QL (Question Letter) from a listener who wanted to know if any top forty hits later became the themes for TV shows-The answers were "Primrose Lane" from "The Smith Family","Rock Around The Clock" which was the original theme from "Happy Days","My Life" from "Bosom Buddies",& "Runaway" from "Crime Story"-However,the "AT40" research team missed one:"Thank You For Being A Friend" from "The Golden Girls". Maybe it was skipped because it wasn’t Andrew Gold’s version. But the version of “My Life” used in Bosom Buddies wasn’t performed by Billy Joel. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the 1/30/88 show Casey reported on the fastest and scariest rollercoasters, tied into “Tunnel of Love” which used rollercoaster sound effects. The champion mentioned was the Texas Cyclone at Six Flags Astroworld in Houston; neither the ride nor the park exists any longer. But the qualities ascribed to that ride have likely been exceeded many times since by newer coasters. The Cyclone Sounds absolutely terrifying. I’m so not a rollercoaster person. The Cyclone may be ancient history but apparently the other Roller Coasters Casey mentioned still exist, “The Monster” in Montréal and The Beast. I’ll take a pass on both.

Great story about the working class guy on John Mellencamp’s album cover for “The Lonesome Jubilee”. I always figured it was just some actor they hired or John Mellencamp’s dad or something, but apparently it’s just a regular guy from Elnora Indiana. The man, Woody Baker, died in 2009 had 15 children and 86 (!) grandchildren. Imagine their Christmases. Yes I did a deep dive into this guys life. Thank you Google.

RE: that LDD in the 1986 show (listened on WQCY) - makes you wonder if that guy's life ever improved. (Homeless, in jail, etc.) I always wondered what “Eric” did that was so awful he’ll never forgive himself for (his words). Hopefully he improved his life and obviously didn’t act on committing suicide.

The 1/18/87 cue sheet misspelled the Huey Lewis and the News song “Jacob’s Ladder” as “Jacob’s Lasser”.
