I am a bit puzzled - this week's show is announced by Premiere as of 1/16/71, but what they actually play appears to me to be the countdown from the week before... or am I just confusing things? (chart date - show date?) Up until May 8, 1971, the AT40 chart that they used was a week ahead of time. This show would have been played the weekend of 1/9/71 originally.

This weekend's (11/17-18/07) edition of "AT40: The 70s" will feature a rebroadcast of the show from 11/19/77. That show will certainly "Light up our lives" ! That's terrible! ;D

Are they playing the AT40 Archives on this show since they had just started?

You don't suppose they could play a 4-hour show on the 70's show like they do with the 80's shows do you? I know it's a longshot, like hearing any Shadoe shows back in the days of the Flashback shows.

This weekend's (9/29-30/07) edition of "Casey Kasem's American Top 40: The 70s" features a rebroadcast of the program from 9/29/73. I was hoping they would play the last 3-hour show!(9/30/78).

This weekend's (5/12-13/07) edition of "AT40: The 70s" for terrestrial radio will feature the same show heard on XM last night...5/10/75. Next week's edition (5/19-20/07) of "AT40: The 70s" will feature 5/27/78. I listened to part of that show this morning and at the end Casey says "For the week ending May 6, 1978". "Night Fever" was in its 8th and last week at #1.

The 70's-80's station here in Waterloo/Cedar Falls has started to carry it. Cool 105.7 KOKZ. Back in the day, they also carried the original AT40 as well along with CT40.

Here in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area, it was carried on KOKZ 105.7 from around 1982-1991?, and again in 1993-1994.

I wonder why, whenever they play the June 4 1988 show (like this past weekend), Casey ends it by stating it's the June 11 show. Perhaps a mistake in the re-mastering? I think it happened in the re-mastering of it, because I have a copy from the original vinyls that I believe says "Straight from the official Billboard chart for the week ending June 4, 1988". I will check for sure, but I am almost positive that is what Casey says.

This has to be the first time XM's ever done a guest-hosted show! It's 5/26/84, which Charlie Van Dyke hosted. I caught the last part of that today, and I was SHOCKED to hear CVD on there. What's next, a show hosted by Shadoe? Not likely, of course. But if they're playing a Charlie Van Dyke show, why not? ;D

"When the Heart Rules the Mind" is a GREAT song! Their second song, "The Hunter" didn't do near as well, but I thought that was good too. The first song debuted on the week of my high school graduation so that kinda has a special feel to it. As for another lost song that was on the chart that week, how about "I Wanna Be A Cowboy"?

That may be the reason that I buy XM radio. Can't you buy a boom box that carries that? I'm just looking for clarification on that. Thanks!

I would have to say 1985-1986, probably because that the year that I graduated high school. Especially the Fall of 1985. There were so many good songs then. Since I have all of those, I really like to listen to them every Fall.

Yes that was me who mentioned Pete's book in a previous chat. It is an excellent read. I especially liked the picture that he put in there from Billboard that said AT40 was selling a lot of burgers in Waterloo. It shows a picture from Henry's restaurant, which was big in the mid-70's in that area.

"I Can See Clearly Now" also didn't make the 1993 or 1994 year-ends, and that was a huge hit! I would've thought it would've made the 1994 year-end at least. Similarly, Genesis's "Never A Time" (1992-1993) and Phil Collins's "Both Sides Of The Story (1993-1994) also missed out, but if I recall right, they both had quick runs. Also, I seem to recall Seal's "Fly Like An Eagle" (1996-1997) being a rare case of a PPW-era song that made top 10 but failed to make either year-end chart. Did Ace of Base make the year-end in either 1995 or 1996 with "Beautiful Life"? If they did, it must've been near the very bottom, as that was really split. Yes, "Beautiful Life" led off the 1995 YE at #100.
