My only real gripe with the show is not with Ryan, it is with the made-up chart they are using. IMHO, they should go back to using the regular R & R Pop chart. This way, it kills off recurrent songs that have long outstayed their welcome. I mean, "Suga Suga" is STILL on the chart after how many months? And "Headstrong" and "Here Without You"? Gosh, those two songs have been on the chart since August OF LAST YEAR!!! And another thing, how in the world does "In Da Club" make a miraculous re-entry after being off of the chart for 4-5 months? I looked at the cue sheets for Ryan's first show when I got them and thought I was reading a typo!

I also think that the jingle after Casey´s tribute was the wrong thing. I agree that after such an element in the show a song by the artist should be played. The same with the "extras" and the "book of records". All stories in the show should be followed by a song, I think. I thought that Casey might play something of Billy Preston, but he didn't. What he said though was very heartfelt.

I get AT20 on Mix 96.5 WMT in Cedar Rapids from 9 a.m. to 12 noon every Sunday. Unfortunately, I usually don't get to hear it because I work overnight most Saturdays so I normally would be sleeping during that time. But that is another station that carries AT20.

I remember thanks to that Pop Music Archive site knowing American Top 40 was returning and also that Casey would hosting it. I also remember the very horrible placeholder "Top 40 Countdown" produced by Westwood One that last month knowing they were done the last weekend in March. I did like the guy who hosted it the last week though. No one at my local affiliate would answer the email I sent back then, but I asked if they would pick up the new AT40 show figuring they probably would, but not really knowing for sure whether Westwood One would continue to produce a show and try to find a replacement and also knowing how many other boneheaded decisions the local affiliate had made, I wasn't 100% until I heard Casey. And even that was an on edge moment. Not sure whether there was an intro saying "now, AMFM radio networks proudly presents American Top 40" on that show or not, but if there was, the local station didn't air it. It started with "10....9.....8.....7..." I just listened to that show a couple of days ago and they just started out with the opening theme music. 2... #1...Hello again everybody and welcome to American Top 40...

The first time that I remember hearing AT40 was back in the fall of 1978 when "Hot Child In The City" was heading towards #1. After that, I recall listening to the Top 50 of 1979.

I didn't think so either because I have never seen a CD copy of them. I have some of them from this year and they are just copies from the show, not the originals.

Actually, I'm pretty sure there was a regular show produced for the weekend that GOR was aired. You are correct. There was a regular show aired that weekend.

I found one, albeit a Christmas song. Mariah Carey made the AT40 chart with "All I Want For Christmas Is You" on the show for 12/24/94. Excluding Christmas songs, I doubt that there were any songs that made Shadoe that didn't make Casey. The other way around, yes.

I seem to remember AT40 playing the version that had a lengthy symphonic intro. But outside of AT40, radio stations generally played the more "conventional" version of the song. That's my recollection as well. The symphonic intro was on the video, and is on some (but not all) AT40s. But I never heard it on the radio in any market. The 45, which I bought in May 1985 and still have, has the non-symphonic version. I have heard the symphonic version of "One Night In Bangkok" on the radio. It was back in 1985 when I heard it on 105.7 KOKZ, which was the main Top 40 station in my area back then.

To Mark Johnson, I mentioned "Clones" by Alice Cooper back in the second post of this thread. Sorry, I must not have seen that. ;D Maybe I can find another one!

Another song would be "Clones (We're All)" by Alice Cooper which hit #40 during the week that they played the AT40 Book of Records show(July 5, 1980).

Who knows, XM might... I remember they've aired Charlie Van Dyke before, on a 1984 show. That is true. And I was surprised when I heard that one too!

I am SICK of the early 80's! 1980 and 1981 to just GO AWAY PLEASE. lol. I hope Pat Benatar is on the show though! *checks* Ooh YAY she's #18! Yeah I understand your point, but be thankful that you have radio stations that air these countdown shows. Some of us aren't even that lucky. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if XM or if terrestrial radio stations have aired the March 29, 1980 show in recent months/years? Thanks! Don't bet on them playing that 3/29/80 show since it was hosted by Charlie Van Dyke. Remember, the name of the show is Casey Kasem's American Top 40: the 80's. ;D

This weekend's (3/1-2/07) edition of "Casey Kasem's American Top 40: The 80s" will feature a rebroadcast of the show from 2/18/84. Going a little bit behind aren't they?

This week's (1/19-20/08) edition of "Casey Kasem's American Top 40: The 80s" will feature a rebroadcast of the show from January 19, 1985. They played this on XM this past week. And another show that was a Flashback show!
