I've got a pile of Dees shows from 1994-1997 that I saved from a radio station trashcan, though I wonder why years later.
Dees is forgettable...so is his syndicated show....and very dated. Casey is more of an emotional connection and even though it's a bit dated, having an emotional connection will be the focus of the nostalgia. Dees is far more morning show fare, in the moment with topical and dated material. same goes for seacrest and the current AT40. I can't see that being overly interesting 20 years down the road. The mainstream media is so superficial and disposable today it's kinda sad.

Interesting what adrian says about CT40 in Dartmouth, NS.
The station went from a easy listening/music of your life type format, into top 40 in 1987, around 1990-91 they started carryiing CT40, but only for 1-2 years. this, by the way, is the ONLY period that casey kasem has been heard in the Halifax/Dartmouth market. AT40 with casey was never in the biggest city in Nova Scotia, but in the towns of bridgewater (CKBW) and new glasgow (CKEC). AT40 with Ryan is now heard in halifax on Z103.5, and CKEC in the old AT40 with casey slot, saturday's 2-6 pm.
but I digress....
FYI....
CT40 was fed via satellite to affiliates in canada, without the national commericals. stations would have to tape it weekly. the satellite distributor would do a master set of tapes, dubbed from the vinyl.
I used to tape it myself when there was a studio free at the station I was working for. we didn't carry it, but had access to the feed.

I thought chart data was from Mediabase 24/7, which is part of Premiere's umbrella of services for radio...
I should be having all 3 shows come in to me at some point...should be an interesting listen from what's been said here so far. I don't want to say for sure, until I have them in my hand.

if you're into trading, I wouldn't mind a CD copy of the last casey show myself....internet strems were terrible quality. I have some seacrest stuff from this year...the original mp3's.

Hey folks! My name is Larry Ravenswood..dj extraordinaire and pop music fan. I have produced and narrated a AT40 like countdown that I hope you will enjoy. It does indeed bring you back to the AT40 year end countdown days, even if AT40 was yet to exist in 1969. This is a countdown of the Top 100 songs for 1969 at the following link: the60sofficialsite.com/Top_100_Hits_of_1969.htmlthis is a few hours long, so get yourself a beverage and sit back and relax and enjoy! Sincerely, Larry Ravenswood The Strawberry Pop Show on the initial few minutes of listening, it doesn't sound bad, but i'm not going to sit there and let it play online...too tedious. Ipods are a wonderful thing....and spoil me I guess. Is there a download site? I know the paranoia of the RIAA in the US, which is why I'm glad i'm in canada, downloads are still legal up here. I'd also would mind securing it for my internet stream for 1960's day, as a special to run around the 1st of the year (once I get Opus 74 edited, I might put that on 1970's day) I'm broke so cash is out, it's done as a hobby. in addition to my own 1/2 hour show devoted to cheesy music. drop me a line or post here. scott s.

WODS presently has on-demand streaming of the other syndicated shows they air on the weekend:"The Beatle Years" on Saturday & "Elvis Only" & "Beatle Brunch" on Sunday. The difference obviously being the cease and desist letter from the attorneys representing Premiere. likely...and westwood one, who is the syndicator for the other shows has no problem with it. It's unfortunate, as I was pulling them down from WODS myself, but I'll live. I was surprised that any station actually has done this. In the not too distant past, most of these shows used to say "must be destroyed after broadcast" on the show program discs. They were disposable. With the nostaglia factor of the AT40 countdowns, it's certainly got folks looking at some of the other shows produced. It's gotten me to watch ebay and dig into my syndicated show collection to dub stuff for my ipod.

mr jukebox, half the problem with recording in "real time" vs "voicetracking" is that it's far easier to fix with a voice track then in real time...
listening to the July 4th. 1970 show again on sirius, I could easily tell he was doing it in real time, as his speed slowed or sped up to hit vocal on some of the songs. Not common in the world of voicetracking, as you don't here the song, just read the copy and sometimes have a time to hit.
With real time, if you flub a line, you have to do it all over again, music, jingles and all, go back to the start of the segment. with voice tracking, you start at the last paragraph of the script....the engineer mixed the voice track with all the other elements...and unless he screws up repeatedly, it's a significant time saver.
The other fact is that it was still in it's growing pains, establishing formats and routines for production. That will also eat up time to get "into the groove" of producing any show. once you set a pattern, you become more efficient.

I wouldn't complain, I thought it was a fair report....
Outside the industry, for the average casual listener (which most of you aren't no offense intended) it would be a surprise. There wasn't much fanfare. unless you were looking for it, you wouldn't find a mention. In fact, if it wasn't for me coming to this board when I did, I would have missed it. I thank you all for that. I'm far from a hard core fan these days as I was in my teens, but certainly respect the show and enjoy the reruns on sirius/XM.
Second, as I recorded it, I had a chance to watch it again, and it was clearly noted that Casey didn't want to give an interview, so it seems jean stepped in and said a few things, which I thought were appropriate.
All too often events like this go out with a flicker if at all for the sake of time and money, yet premiere did it with taste and class, like himself. The ABC report was also a nice touch. We all wish there was more, but I understand why. I hope you also do.

Thanks to Pete for the tip off, as I flipped over to ABC news, as I don't normally watch US network news. It was a nice bit, especially seeing his booth and mic....looks like a neumann....if not, looks vintage...possibly what he started out with. It would have been nice top see him interviewed, but i'm sure anyone can understand and respect his decision not to.
I'm recording the audio feed of OZ FM via satellite now running AT20 for the 2nd time, it seems very clean, next best thing to the mp3 files, so will have a chance eventually to actually listen to it. caught AT10 off a somewhat tolerable internet stream via CKGX in sarnia...may leave it as one mp3 file, or cut it up...
does anyone have access to the cue sheets PDF files usually off the FTP site for AT20? AT10? would love to have that to add to the recorded show.
In any event, he certainly has left his mark on american radio history, with a lot of memories for fans with the reruns thanks to hard core collectors.
A sincere "all the best" to Casey on his retirement and hope that he "keeps reaching for the stars" himself.

I might add that in those days, everything was real time recording...or longer depending on screw up, everything was recorded together live as you hear it....what a pain in the ***. until dick clark suggested voice tracking. which is a lot easier on the host and a lot easier to fix a flub that a host may make.

I have it on CD I traded through a collector some years ago, as in 1998 when casey started hosting again, AM/FM at the time issued a CD set to affiliates. mine is a copy, but still great to hear.

I MISSED the OZ FM show this morning.....the 7-10 am NFLD time is not on the schedule listed here
HOWEVER....
According to a banner on the OZ FM page, there's a refeed at 10 PM- 1 am NFLD time (8:30 PM EST) sunday night....
As this is one of the few in atlantic canada that still runs the show, I'll set up to record off my satellite feed from OZ and hope for the best.
Not many canadian stations block US programming like this AT20 then AT40....then again it's OZ....it's not your typical canadian radio station..
I'll also try to get it off a few US streams this weekend as I usually do...but would like a decent quality copy of the "final" show....IE the show mp3's would be nice, but can't expect that now can I? LOL!!!
cue sheets?
