The #1 Hits of the 1970s may be a special which WTOJ has compiled to air only on their station.

If you like Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again (Naturally)," you'll have to wait a while because that song will lead off part 2. And the Supremes' "Someday We'll Be Together" just misses the cut in the other direction. Back in 1983, I remember a program called the Number One Radio Show, which aired all the Billboard #1 pop hits from 1964-79 in chronological order. I'm not sure whether it was a local production or nationally-based.

Billboard's chart dates have always been for "week ending", as Casey pointed out at the end of shows. So "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" was #1 from 12/28/69 to 1/24/70, "I Want You Back" from 1/25-1/31/70, and so forth.

The #1 Hits of the 1970s may be a special which WTOJ has compiled to air only on their station. Possibly, although it would seem like a lot of work for one station to go through and pull bits of Casey for every number one song of the decade (especially if songs from Jan-July 1970 are included).

Also, so far there has been no regular countdown other than 1971 specified. For the last two years, every time Premiere has played something from before 1973 they've offered an alternative, usually a regular show from later in the decade but sometimes a special.

Ken just clarified to me that he did mix and edit the #1s special but Premiere is making it available to all AT40 70s and 80s affiliates.

When they start their holiday shows in November, they only offer one weekly '70s countdown regardless of its year.

For stations that do not want to air a 1970-72 program because they feel it skews 'too old' for their target demographic, offering an alternative of 1970-72 number 1 hits is not really much of a choice. I'll bet some stations will air neither and instead run a previous May show from a later year.

For some stations, like WMGN, the only times lately they've played 1970-72 were last November and December when holiday music was the only alternative.

Whew! Luckily, WTOJ is within over-the-air distance, I'm covered either way. However, WTOJ rarely plays any extras, so I'd be curious to see what (if any) songs would be chosen as extras for such a compilation. (Make no mistake...if there's anyone who'd be nuts enough to go the extra effort to take the effort to produce a one-off special for a station that doesn't stream, it'd be Ken. He typically goes the extra effort to put together specials, events and countdowns forseasonal and holiday purposes all the time )

And Michael, I'll take that as a compliment.
