Ken Martin - The #1 Hits of the 70s is excellent. I look forward to hearing Part 2. I hope you get the opportunity to cover the 80s, even if only 1980 to 1988.

I am not understanding why he had the line 'this was the first half of the special. Hope you can join me for the second half' at the end. Surely this will take more than 2 parts to do unless the second half is some kind of montage.

I don't believe Casey ever hosted a multi-part special, so it would be difficult to find a clip of him not asking listeners to join him for the second half.

Which also explains the presence of lines like "moving from #3 to #1 this week", which don't make much sense heard outside of the context of their particular original week. Still, they did the best they could with what they had to work with, especially in the first part covering the first half of 1970 when there was no AT40.

For those who are also hunting down the 80s special: streema.com/radios/KCOWKCOW appears to be out of Alliance, NE, which is in the Mountain time zone, 2 hours off of Eastern... unless I'm off, that would make the 1PM local start time of the Newcomers Special 3PM Eastern. In any event, a good place to stream both specials.

It's also where you'll find the world-famous Carhenge!

Both shows feature Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On." While both shows were remastered with the stereo album mix, Premiere kept the start and finish of the mono single mix in the 1971 show. I much prefer they keep the single version on the show because the percussion is much louder and more funkier.

I agree, blackbowl68. I loved hearing the "false fade" (original) version of "What's Going On" on the 1971 show. And you're right, it is funkier and more percussive---the version I grew up with. I have the single. The fade-out wasn't too evident, as I am sure it was amped up in remixing for AT40 plus radio station equipment picks up the volume of lowered audio. Casey even made the comment, "What a big finish for a great song..." Loved this show more that I thought I would.
