Will it KILL the PDs to go with the 4-hour '70s shows when they come up in the rotation. Like Pete B. told me, 'It's like goin' to the zoo, and seein' only 75% of the animals! Maybe if more folks contacted their respective stations 'bout airin' the full 4-hour shows, these PDs might just listen to 'em! Couldn't agree more...my guess is it comes down to either a case of laziness on the part of PDs, or a case of them not wanting to deal with the stress of potential screw-ups when their monkeys would have to enter a 4-hour show in the automation system. How many of the 70s stations actually promote the show - and the chart date - throughout the week in advance of the program's airtime? If the answer is zero, or very few, what about the listeners? If listeners are accustomed to a 3-hour program that starts and ends at the same times, does the station start the 4-hour program an hour early, or keep it going an hour longer? Either way, some might be disappointed or inconvenienced by the change. And how are listeners to plan for the following weekend? Listen an hour earlier? That's a programming problem for many if there's no advance promotion. Another thing to consider is local advertising time. What kind of commitment does the sales department have to sell an extra hour of the show, an extra hour of special weekend programming? What kind of commitment is there to contact sponsors and explain "this is just a once in a while" opportunity? We don't know. But even worse, I'm guessing some station sales departments have no idea an extra hour is out there on occasion because it's not communicated to them. All of this sounds like a lot of work with confusing repercussions for both listeners and stations. And may be why some stations don't want to be hassled with an inconsistent schedule pattern every 2-3 months.

why cant premiere offer a first hour recap for the stations that only play 3 hour shows (they make one for the stations that play a 3 hour AT40 the 80s show)

According to 96.5 KOOL FM's Facebook page, they will be airing 1979 (makes sense, since the last time they aired 1979 was in March). The only question that still remains to be seen is whether if it will be 3 or 4 hours. Their website contains nothing at the moment yet. www.facebook.com/965KOOLFMhalifax

Yes, it'll KILL the PDs, especially when it comes right down to local advertising dollars, these people aren't programming directors, they're bean counters and only believe surveyors who are not actual listeners about what's listenable, I have pretty much explained what you said in my quote of your's here about 4-hour 70's shows when talking with Gary at KOLA 99.9 FM from Redlands, California, twice, but this guy won't budge! I know... maybe we can persuade him again and ask to air AT40 from 6-10 am instead of 5-9 am. It's unlikely, but worth a try. I already tried the 6-10 AM angle and even their old repeat timeslot 6-10 PM, both to no avail, unfortunately!

WJER's website says they're playing 6/12/1971. AND it will be in the normal time slot for a change (10a East/1p West) and not delayed by baseball.

WJER airs Dick Bartley's Classic Countdown every Sunday and the countdown for this week's show is from June 1979, so that's probably why they went with 1971 this week for AT40.

Correction on the first post for KOKZ. They played the full 4-hour show. I know because I recorded it. They started at 8:00 AM instead of 9:00 AM. (central)

Correction on the first post for KOKZ. They played the full 4-hour show. I know because I recorded it. They started at 8:00 AM instead of 9:00 AM. (central) And they played ALL 4 optional extras.
