Like the 70s thread, what 80s year-end program would you prefer to hear? I'm not asking what program you believe will air -- I'd like you to note the one you want to hear.
Since we don't yet know what we'll hear at the end of 2012, we can only speculate. And that's why I listed nearly every poll option. I added the option of a non-year-end show, just in case there's another special you'd prefer.
Keep in mind that New Year's Day 2013 falls on a Tuesday so there will likely be just one program. Will we hear just the Top 50 of a Top 100 program? Or the entire 8 hours?
Again, I have no decision-making connections, nor do I expect this poll to actually reflect what is decided. In fact, it's certainly possible that the program decision has already been made.

Given the lack of early-January Casey-hosted shows, I'm not sure NYD falling on a Tuesday *should* really factor into whether or not it's a top 50 or top 100 show... unless they start playing mid-January shows as early as January 5-6.

If they run the whole thing, I'd like 82. Otherwise, I personally don't care. I've got the others already and I'd just default to the consensus of everyone else.

Well, its not like they are opposed to running the same shows they've run in the past, so Pete may be right. But, I hope you are correct in that they run a 2 part version. If not, perhaps they could run a special from another year. I know there were none in January, but I don't think anyone would care.

Given that part two of the 1983 show aired the weekend of January 7-8 this year, I'm not so sure that 1/1/2013 being a Tuesday this next year will make any difference.

Again, I have all of them, so I voted for my favorite... 1982!

Among Casey-hosted year-end specials – looks like that means 1988 and 1989 are out of the running, natch(!) – I'd personally like to hear the two remaining year-end shows that we've yet to hear. That leaves 1981 and 1987.
Of the two, I picked 1987. I dunno if there's a real reason, just a lot of variety of music from that particular year.

I'd prefer to hear the Top 100 of 1987 this year. After all, it would be a rarity to hear a 1988 show at the end of December - given the top 100 of 1987 originally aired in 1988.
Then again, if I had a second choice, it would be the 1986 year-ender, only this time in its entirety. It was probably the best year-end countdown that decade, and it's a shame they chose to air just #50 onward back in 2009.
To me, 1981 was an awful year for music. Perhaps the worst year that decade for music (1980 was slightly better, though) to my taste.

The Top 100 of 1987, without a doubt, would be stellar.
Then again, I, too, wouldn't be adverse to the full Top 100 of 1986 being aired.
I'm a beggar, though, so no choosing here.

They did the Top 50 of 82 in 09. Did they also do 86 too? Yes, they did. They did just the last half of that year-ender. The week before or the week after the 1982 year-ender aired by Premiere. I do have the full year-end of 1986 in my collection, though.

1980 and 1981 were both years in which a ton of AC music hit it big at top 40 radio; that happens at the start of every decade, including the early seventies and the early nineties, as numerous articles by consultants such as Guy Zapoleon, Alan Burns & Jaye Albright have detailed throughout previous decades in Billboard, R&R & elsewhere.
Top 40 radio enjoyed a major resurgence and its most substantial reinvention since KHJ/Los Angeles launched in 1965 in 1981 when KIIS-FM/LA was launched, and NYCs Z100 came along two years later; those two stations powered top 40 to ratings not seen at the format since the mid-sixties.
Back-to-back multi-week charttopping flamethrowers from the J. Geils Band & Joan Jett & The Blackhearts in early 1982 essentially solved to AC-heavy problem for the rest of the decade as the format exploded and enjoyed a huge surge in popularity which lasted through most of the rest of the decade until the very late eighties.
If I had to pick a year-end countdown for this year, I'd pick 1981 first, followed by 1984, although neither one of those would touch the exhilirating 1985 countdown from a couple of years agoi.

I'd agree with 1987, especially as they haven't aired that one yet and there are a lot of great songs on there.

I voted for 1987 but now it's been revealed that next weekend's countdown is from 1982, I'm strongly suspecting that we'll be getting 1981.
