There are threads for everything here so why not another one for those artists who have songs in all 3 American Top 40s from the '70s and '80s. It is a bit of a rarity and not every weekend does an artist appear on all 3 countdowns. This weekend, one artist does appear in all 3, Stevie Wonder. At #5 in the 1973 show is "Superstition". At #23 in the '74 show is "Living For the City". At #22 in the 1985 show is "Love Light in Flight". Stevie now has the most triple plays this year with 3. He also got triple plays the weekends of Jan. 15/16 and Jan. 22/23.

There was a triple play of the same song on the same chart, the 2/16/74 show played this weekend. Two versions of 'Americans' were in the 40 AND a third version was at #95 that week by Tex Ritter.
Although not a triple play, interesting to note that John Forgerty was in two shows played this weekend. As the Blue Ridge Runners at #21 with Jambalaya on the 2/10/73 show played on SXM and as himself at #17 with Old Man Down the Road on the 2/9/85 Premiere 80s show.

The bizarre thing about Tex Ritter being on the chart then is that he had died just over a month earlier.

There is a triple play this week and it goes to Barry Manilow with "Mandy", "Somewhere in the Night" and "When I Wanted You" on the 3 countdowns played.

A triple play of sorts for next week's Premiere shows, 2/20/71 and 2/27/88. Three acts are in both countdowns. George Harrison, Michael Jackson and Gladys Knight. Amazing, given a seventeen year span!

It would be even more amazing if one of them gets a triple play with that many years in between countdowns. It will happen for Gladys Kinght if 1973 or 74 is played and for George Harrison if 1977 is played by XM. MJ has no possibilities.

Michael Jackson would have a triple play if SXM runs 1975 (the Jackson 5's "I Am Love") or 1977 (the Jacksons' "Enjoy Yourself).

Has any of the countdowns with I Am Love been aired? And what version was played? I know it was a long 7 and a half minute song split into 2 parts. A slow and a fast part.
Personally I love the later Jackson 5 stuff. Their cover of Hum Along And Dance was great as well!

Yes, 2 countdowns with "I am Love" in it were played last year, 3/8 and 3/22/75. The 2 networks are on an every week pattern this year with 1975 having played 1/18, 2/1 and 2/15/75 shows. The next would be 3/1 if that pattern continues although I don't expect it to continue.

Just the regular radio feeds right? Not xm factoring into that....

Just the regular radio feeds right? Not xm factoring into that.... It does include SXM's 70s replay, as well as Premiere's 70s and 80s shows. And since SXM is doing 1972, nobody gets a triple play this week. However, there are four who have double plays, one in each decade; the three listed above plus Cher, who appears on the 1972 and 1988 shows. In addition, if SXM's show is 2/26/72 there's another triple play of sorts from Melanie, who has three songs in that countdown.

mkarns is right. I saw that thread earlier in the week and did not comprehend the question. But as the author of this thread, as I said, mkarns is correct that XM is part of the triple play. Simply put, a triple play is an artist having a song in the top 40 of all 3 AT40 shows of a given week. Extras and long distance dedications do not count.

Anyone wondering what artists have a shot at the 18 year triple play if shows from 1970 and '88 are played the same week in July or early August, there are 3...Michael Jackson, Chicago and the Moody Blues. Of course they would also need to have something in whatever other show is aired. We'll see.....

DARN IT! I wish I could hear the 72 show from XM this week. I absolutely LOVE early 72. Plus the triple Melanie is cool AND 2-26-72 is when my favorite Sly Stone song debuted (Runnin' Away)
