New Kids On The Block did it in November 1989.

Paul MCCartney did it in July 1976 with 2 of his own songs and the Beatles "Got to Get You Into My Life". That is 5 that we have come up with in the 70s and 80s.

In 1993 Whitney Houston did it on Shadoe's AT40. She might've done it on Casey's Top 40, but I'm not sure.

In 1993 Whitney Houston did it on Shadoe's AT40. She might've done it on Casey's Top 40, but I'm not sure. "I Will Always Love You", "I'm Every Woman", and "I Have Nothing" were all on CT40 on 2/27 and 3/6/93.

QUARTERLY REPORT....this should be under a new thread but there are already too many threads as it is so since this involves all 3 shows, I will put it in this thread. This is a report on the AT40 shows on the 3 networks for the first quarter which ends after this week's shows. Here is the year-by-year breakdown of shows for the 70s and 80s. The 70s (includes both networks) 1975...5; 1973, 1978...4; 1971, 1979....3; 1972....2; 1974, 1976, 1977...1. As a comparison last year through 1 quarter, 1972, 74,75 and 78 were tied for the most with 4 while 1973 had just 1 and 1979 had 0 but was not being played by Premiere. So they still have a bit of a disparity problem. # of shows played by both networks....1 (1/13/73) # of combined back-to-back weeks aired...1 (3/18 and 3/25/78) As a comparison, last year there was 1 show aired by both networks and there were 3 times when they combined for back-to-back weeks through 1 quarter. # of shows that aired both last year and this year though 1 quarter...7 (1/7/78, 1/18/75, 1/21/78, 2/5/72, 2/27/72, 3/6/76, 3/13/71) The 80s 1980, 1982, 1984...2; all other years have been played once 1 show has been played last year and this year...1/19/80. This is the first regular show done by Casey in the decade. Factoids.....show with the most #1 songs in it....1/18/75 with 13 show with the least #1 songs in it...1/16/82 and 3/20/82 with 3 (there are no shows in the 70s or 80s with fewer than 3 #1 songs in them) Only regular show this quarter in which the top 5 songs were all #1s...3/15/75
Outlook for the second quarter....in the 70s, we need a lot less of 1975 and a lot more of 1974, 76 and 77. I see Premiere showing some love towards 1979 since they did not play it for so long. In the 80s, look for at least 2 1988 shows since they only have until August to play that year. And since this is the triple play thread, the artist with the most triple plays so far this year is Stevie Wonder with 3.

Are you sure 1-19-80 got played this year? I know that 1-26-80 was played this year because I own the original copy and was mad when they played it since I paid Shannon for it!

BTW Avril Lavigne had three Top 40 hits on AT40 in December 2002.

I see. Ok does anybody think any 80s shows will be repeated that aired last year?

Well, the Bee Gees pull off a pair of self-contained triple plays in 3/25/78 - I think we all know what those are by now. As for the traditional form of triple play: Well...forget it. There's only one artist that XM's 3/24/73 has in common with 3/24/84, and that's only due to the first LDD in the '84 show - namely, Gallery. I haven't compared 3/25/78 that closely with either of those two, but...well...with Gallery obviously not in the '78 show, it seems pretty pointless now, doesn't it? There is a notable contrast between the two Premiere shows, however: On one end is Van Halen's first Top 40 hit peaking on 3/25/78 at #36. On the other end is their biggest hit ever spending its final week atop the summit on 3/24/84, accompanied by a story from their earliest fame to boot.

That triple by the Bee Gees is by far the most impressive of all such triples. According to all the posts, the artists to have 3 songs in any week's top 40 during the 70s and 80s are Melanie in 72, Paul McCartney in 76, the Bee Gees, Diana Ross in 1980 and New Kids on the Block in 89. While all 3 of the Bee Gees songs hit #1, none of the other triples artists had more than 1 #1 song out of the 3. Case closed if you are a Bee Gees fan.

Well, with the Premiere shows next week being 4/1/72 and 4/5/86, the prospects of a triple play already look pretty d**n bleak, with the only artist in common once again being due to an LDD in the 80s, this time Bobby Vinton. Any other first-week-in-April 70s shows out there that had Bobby Vinton in them?

Bumper Morgan filled in for Casey the first April show of 1979.

crz108--the only appearances Bobby Vinton made during the 70's (and none in the 80's) on at40 are: Summer 1972 Sealed with a Kiss; Fall 1974 My Melody of Love; and Beer Barrel Polka April 19 and 26 1975 (BBP appears on another thread with a song that debuted in the Top 40 at 33, and stayed there for those two weeks only and dropped off). . I took the time to look these up since you always keep me straight about which songs are repeated in the countdown when we hear the same year counted down weeks later.
