I am with you about early 72. Yeah, "Runnin Away" along with "Family Affair" and "If You Want Me to Stay" are my fave Sly Stone songs. By the way, I am not too happy that the last 2 shows in late 71/early 72 were the week before and week after "One Monkey Don't Stop NO Show" was in the top 40. XM played 12/4/71. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6zpg0W6DnM

Oh well, maybe in the next 8 or 9 weeks we'll get a 72 show on reg radio. How long has it been since reg radio had a 72 show? January right?

Not sure if it helps, but Premier played 2/5/72 three weeks ago. But if I recall "Monkey" was not on that show.

wahoo is right, Premiere played the show of 2/5/72. I did find "Monkey" on youtube. Also "Stick Up", a video taken from their performance on Soul Train. Some talented ladies there.

Melanie has her triple in one show as other people pointed out. This is the third triple in the last year that I recall. The Bee Gees had their 3 Saturday Nght Fever hits in the 3/11/78 show and Diana Ross had "Upside Down', "I'm Coming Out" and "It's My Turn" in the 11/29/80 show. Any others of late?

This week's Premiere countdown (2/27/71) has a triple shot of the same composition: the "Love Story" theme, in instrumental renditions by Francis Lai and Henry Mancini, plus Andy Williams' vocal version.

Nobody answered your post. "Monkey" is "One Monkey Don't Stop no Show" by Honeycone. Odd triple this week. All 3 countdowns had at least 6 debut songs.....6,6 and 7.

No triple play for the second straight week. It is a hard feat to accomplish.

Upon further examination, you could give a triple play to Randy Meisner. He has his solo hit "Hearts on Fire" on the 1981 show. As a member of Eagles, he was part of "Best of My Love" in 1975 and at #1 and "Take it to the Limit" in 1976. He sings lead on that one.

There is a triple play this week and it goes to Chicago with "Free" in 1971, "No Tell Lover" in 1979 and "Will You Still Love Me" in 1987. That is the biggest range in a triple play this year.

There's an inside joke going around between myself and a few other members of this board about Chicago always being present on AT40... this just proves it. Started one year (2007, I think) when there were several weeks in a row on the 80's show that there was a Chicago song, and a big deal was made when they weren't on one week. Since then, whenever I've done commentary for some of the shows, I've included a "Chicago update", regardless of whether they were charting that week or not. Just ask Hervard... he knows all about it. It just so happens that their career pretty much spans the entire length of "classic" AT40... ironic that their biggest hit happened to hit in the Shadoe era!

For this week, we have 3/15/75, 3/18/78, and 3/20/82. No triple plays as defined on this thread this time, though there are several acts heard on two of the three countdowns: ELO, David Gates, Rod Stewart, Van Halen, Dan Fogelberg, and Olivia Newton-John.
However, 3/18/78 has probably an even more notable triple shot: three songs by the Bee Gees as performers, and three more as writers/producers.
Also, when SXM played 3/13/71 last week we heard three Creedence Clearwater Revival/John Fogerty compositions in a row: CCR's "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" and "Hey Tonight" (both sides of the #8 single), and then Ike & Tina Turner's rendition of "Proud Mary" (#7).

This will be the third show aired in the last few months in which an artist has 3 songs in the top 40. The others were Melanie in 1972 and Diana Ross in 1980. I cannot think of any other artist who had 3 songs in the top 40 during the 70s or 80s.

Other artists who have had three songs in the top 40 at the same time are Gale Storm in the 50's and The Beatles and Herman's Hermits in the 60's. Were there any others after 1988? Am i missing Elvis Presley in the 50's and 60's?
