It appears that 4/16 and 4/23 have never been featured before, so even with the year shake-up, we're still getting another new chart regardless as it could go either way. I'd prefer 4/16/83, as we get 4/23 from Casey next week (the 4/16 AT40 was guest hosted, as was the 4/12/86 chart we got from SXM this week.)

This week also marks the first time that "A Little Bit Of Love (Is All It Takes)" by New Edition has ever been featured in a countdown.

They're going with 4/16, so it's not going to be a direct copy of this week's Premiere.

They're going with 4/16, so it's not going to be a direct copy of this week's Premiere. Lately they've often gone forward in the dates but this time they went back. Maybe they learned of Premiere's show and decided not to precisely duplicate it even though it may have been too late to change the year? Though they haven't generally refrained from doing so in the past.... This is the second chart in a row from an AT40 Casey didn't host. But we probably won't get a third unless 1989 is next.

Great, so not only are they ignoring 1982 and 1984 again (and several more years but that's besides the point), but it's going to be a repeat of last year. Hooray.
What makes it even more frustrating is that they've done so well over the past few weeks with four new charts in a row and now they just go and squander it.

They're going with 4/16, so it's not going to be a direct copy of this week's Premiere. Of course by going a week earlier we likely miss out on maybe my all time favorite flub... You Can't Call Him Al because on Mornin' he was being billed as just Jarreau.

Should probably be April 25, 1987 (though if they jumped ahead to May 2 then it would continue the streak of guest hosted AT40 weeks.)
But didn't we just get 1987? Yep, this is five weeks after their last 1987 show (and we've also gotten Casey from 1987 in the intervening time.) Which means that it's being repeated before literally half the other years in the decade (1980, 82, 84, 85, and 89) have had a chance to be aired.

Here is a rarity: two songs on this coming Friday's countdown where both the original and the remake went to #1--"You Keep Me Hangin' On" Supremes and Kim Wilde, "Lean On Me" Bill Withers and Club Nouveau.

But didn't we just get 1987? Yep, this is five weeks after their last 1987 show Five weeks since the last show, but more than likely only four weeks difference between the featured charts. This development makes me even more aggravated that the previous 1987 show did not play the 3/21 chart (as they claimed). Clearly they could have, given which 1983 chart they just opted to use. I may have to give up my regular practice of seeing what charts they might play ten weeks later, given that the new process seems to be "pick a year out of a hat and run with it."

Next week's Casey lite 1981!! OH COME ON ANOTHER YEAR THAT WAS NOT ONLY JUST DONE 5 WEEKS AGO BUT IS ALSO GOING TO BE A REPEAT OF LAST YEAR??? What, did the new guy just throw 5 years into some AI thing or whatever and that's all we're going to get for the rest of the year or something? This is just ridiculous. 1984 hasn't been done since JANUARY, and 1982 since February, but I guess the almighty algorithm or RNG or whatever is better at determining this stuff than we are.

I thought the new PD would have better programming than this! What does the programmer have against 1984! I think there was a time several years ago when 1984 was neglected for about a half a year or more--is this going to be deja vu?

1984 is overdue, but playing it next week would duplicate Casey. But 1982 hasn't been played in almost as long, and won't have that particular problem.
A 1981 show would probably be May 2, 1981, a week we don't get from Premiere (that AT40 was guest hosted), but as with this week's 1987 I think they're returning to that year too soon. Maybe they should do as they've done before and settle on a pattern in which each year reappears every 10th week, with occasional divergences, but that may make too much sense.

Maybe they should do as they've done before and settle on a pattern in which each year reappears every 10th week, with occasional divergences, but that may make too much sense. They were doing this for most of the past year up until February. It seems like whenever they decide to stick with a strict pattern, we end up getting a ton of repeats and each year ends up airing during the same general time frame consistently. I'd suggest that maybe we'll get 5/9/81 next week instead of 5/2, but I wouldn't bet money on that...
