One has to wonder if they chose 1980 for this weekend because it was a leap year.

Next week it'll be all about 1989. Didn't they just do that year at the end of January?

Next week it'll be all about 1989. Didn't they just do that year at the end of January? Yes, this would be six weeks after the last 1989 show. And still we haven't yet heard 1985 or 1988 (which would be covered by the leap year theory) in 2024.

At least with 1989 being next week, we more than likely won't have to worry about getting 3/12 or 3/19/88 again.

So are they going to ignore 1985 and 1988? Those two years haven't played in 2024 at all.

So are they going to ignore 1985 and 1988? Those two years haven't played in 2024 at all. They're probably just reshuffling the years or something. Not to mention they technically also skipped 1984 and 1987. That being said, I hope they go with the 11th because the 4th was just done two years ago.

I think it will be 3/11/89, due to their increasingly consistent habit of going ahead of this weekend's dates rather than behind. This weekend was an exception, but given how the VJ's often cite the week's Friday airdate (March 1) as if it were the chart date, they had to use the chart actually dated March 1, 1980. Contrast that to 70s on 7, which played AT40 from 2/26/77 this week--a chart date that in strict calendar closeness terms would have fit better last weekend.

Premiere also did 1977 on their 70's on 7, but they went to a closer date as in 3-5-77. The Billboard chart always stated that the charts were "for the week ending....", so it would be a future date, not a date behind.

I just realized that we'll be hearing several songs counted down for the 3rd time in around 2 1/2 months (Wild Thing, Straight Up, etc.)

Just the opposite when 1985 and 1988 are played--songs from 1984 and 1987 that were played in late 2023 (39 years ago and 36 years ago respectively) will have dropped off the countdown by the time they are played. 1984 and 1987 were played in November 2023.

3/11/89 was last played in 2015, so that's not a bad choice at all. It spares us from hearing 3/25 for the fifth time.
I really hope whoever's in charge doesn't blow the opportunity to finally play one of three consecutive 1988 charts that have never been featured. None of the charts from 3/26/88, 4/2/88 or 4/9/88 have been played, and the 4/16/88 chart was last heard ten years ago.
Also, either of the last two weeks of March would be great for 1985.
(I'll be over here, waiting for them to completely ignore 1988 until May...)

Maybe that's been played before, but it sets up an unplayed 1988 show for one of the next several weeks.

So that just leaves 1988 as the only year that hasn't been featured yet in 2024. Also hoping they do a better job next week. As you can see in the errors thread, they played some songs out of order towards the middle. Sounds like yet another person sleeping at the wheel because the VJs' announcements at that time followed the chart. Also Mark was absent, hence why the show went by a little quicker.

The VJs were all on the 80s cruise this week, so their attention to detail was probably even more lacking than usual. I'm guessing they rushed to get this done before they went away.
