I know, I know....it's only October 10th. But within the month, my guess is that several AC stations will begin their annual flip to 24/7 Christmas music which will last until Midnight on December 26.
Which, also means that many of our local affiliates will soon be pre-empting our beloved AT10 (as well as our other favorite shows like US Music Survey and Backtrax USA). I imagine the AT10 Christmas shows will not start up again until after Thanksgiving, so in the next month or so - the AT10 affiliates will slowly dwindle until the new year.
I know that WNIC/Detroit has already put a Christmas-themed background on their website ( wnic.com ) and says to listen for holiday music later this fall.
Besides the fact that it's way too early - I say we attempt to keep track of how early our local stations may or may not flip this year - and if they then pre-empt their syndicated programming. I know last year my local AC went Christmas on the first week of November, and pre-empted US Music Survey.
However, now that they became an AT10 affiliate this year, it will be interesting to see if they run AT10 Christmas shows when the time comes.
So...enjoy these final weekends of AT10, because for many of us, it will more than likely be going away for a while starting next month. And that truly is a shame.

I thinl 24/7 Christmas music is annoyiong anyway. Back in the day it was only noon Christmas Eve-noon Christmas Day and even that was aggravating. Its overkill, especially if you are telling me this non stop holiday crap starts even before Thanksgiving now!!!

I can guarantee you most stations that do it will start it, at the latest, by November 15th-ish.

I forget where, but there's a station that flipped to all-Christmas for the rest of the year on September 22. Yes, September 22.

I dont know what you call it, I want to say laziness on the part of the PD, but they still would have to program Christmas music. I want to say its stupid, but there HAS to be a logical reason....either that or the WWE Creative team is moonlighting as a radio consulting firm. I want to say it's hilarious because why would anyone think people want to hear the SAME SONGS THEY HEAR YEAR AFTER YEAR for 4 STRAIGHT MONTHS. I know it's AC radio, but even most of THEM aren't that bad. I just dont know what to call this.

I contacted my local AT10 and US Music Survey affiliate, and got a reply today stating they will be going all-Christmas on the day after Thanksgiving. Better than November 1. I was also informed AT10 and US Music Survey will not be aired, with the exception of any special Christmas-themed shows that would come out.

I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to, but I know a station in Omaha, Nebraska flipped to Christmas music around that time frame and it turned out to be a stunt. From what I hear, they played holiday songs for about 12 hours, acting as if it would continue through December. Then in the late afternoon, they changed formats to classic rock. Unless there's another one I didn't hear about...

This is not totally unlike what happened in NYC a couple of years back on WNEW. They switched from a gossip/music format to Christmas music in mid-November. Then when Christmas was over they launched their current "Mix 102.7" format.

On that note...since Halloween falls on a Monday and my radio show is on Monday, I will be hosting a Halloween themed special edition of my show that evening. I got the green light from my PD to do whatever I want. So far, here's what I have:
The show will not be hosted by "me", but rather someone that sounds strikingly similar to me who has decided to take over the show for a week while I am being possessed (or something along that line)
Lots of Halloween soundtracks...Halloween, Friday The 13th, etc
All of the songs Paul mentioned above and any others I can think of (and if anyone has any ideas, please feel free to let me know! I will give you credit for helping at the end of the show)
Ghost stories and some old-time radio theater. I'm looking into a special guest co-host for part of the show.
Special liners and imaging from my imaging guy Drew Bland.
In addition to this, some sort of continual story line or theme of some sort of mystery that will be solved throughout the show. NO idea how to put this one together at this point...
Basically, my PD gave me the green light to go as far out as I want for this special night. So I want to take advantage of it as much as possible. If anyone has any ideas for either music or other special segments for the show -please feel free to post them here or email. Again, you WILL get credit for anything you help me with. And, for anyone interested, info for listening to my show is in the sig. Although, that's not the host or show name for that particular evening.....
