I dont think anyone was complaining, we were just talking about how long the streak is going. And then I was saying that the previous 3 guest host were ok, the fourth one back sucked big time!

Gotcha. To me, it's just a matter of...it's a good thing. Don't spend time wondering why, but rather spend time enjoying it.

I am not ashamed to say I will cry like a baby when Casey is gone from our airwaves for good, so I shall count my blessings and enjoy this streak. And the countdown continues...

I think what Scott mentions above about the current situation is a 100% match. Doing just one recording session a week gives Casey a wider variety of doing it. Looking at his other activities, he's going much slower than 10 or 20 years ago. Like did you know when he left the country the last time ? Must be 3 or 4 years ago ....... Whatever he has to do these days, there should be no reason about NOT recording the show with his regular staff in the regular studio on some day of the week. There is always enough time to edit the show and ship them out, especially when looking at the point that CD's are going to die and most stations are downloading the programme. In this case, he should be able to produce 2 weeks at once someday, ready for download the other day right in time.
Paul, I believe it's always a question of personal taste about loving a specific guest host or not. For me it's that other guy who now hosts a different programme somewhere in the universe, wich seems to me completely untalented and with no personal shape. And if you like Ed McMann or not, we speak about 36 shows in just over 5 years !!! I believe no discussion about that. If you think that is OK, you can call the show "The Ed McMann countdown feat. Casey's Biggest Hits" ( just like it was on "America's Top 10" in it's final years. For me, I don't want to hear Ed McMann again. 36 shows lasts for a lifetime !

I liked Ed McMann the first few times I heard him, because he was so much better than David "cure for insomnia" Perry. But Ed doesn't come close to the levels of Charlie Van Dyke or Mark Elliot in his hosting ability.
When I'm listening to old AT40 shows, I frequently listen to shows that were guest-hosted by Charlie or Mark. I *NEVER* listen to old shows hosted by Ed or David. Nuf said.

I liked the whole DJ/radio show feel when Van Dyke was aguest host. I seem to remember hearing that syle has changed. If you listen to Charlies hosting of the 1-16-88 show, it is so awesome the way that show began and how his voice worked so well with the feel of the show(I refer to this one because it is the one I had and could remember, others I have heard with him were just as good). Guest host now just dont seem to care or have any personality, then again, I don't think many DJ's have any in this day and age.

I thought that when Ryan Seacrest guest hosted AT40 and the AT20's in the months leading up to his taking over of AT40 that he did a very good job. Added some spunk that guest hosts had been lacking for a while. Of course, little did we know that it was a job interview to some degree. But had Ryan never suceeded as host of AT40, I wouldn't have minded him being the regular guest host.
I personally have also always enjoyed Ed McMann's shows.
Now....the 3 Pat O'Brien shows from the winter of 2003...that's a different story.

I agree Brett, everyone just seems to gloss over Obriens/Seacrest guest hosting for some reason. I liked them both, and both were a breath of fresh air to Ed McMann(who I also liked, but thought it was nice to have a different guest host).
And I guess after the previous guest host circa: 1993-1998 ANYONE was a welcomed change ;D

Well, I would personally like to thank David Perry for his wonderful public service. Every time I woke up at 6:00am and realized it would be David Perry instead of Casey hosting the show, I got 2 or 3 more hours of sleep. So thanks, Dave!

You can guess why Seacrest get that guest host job in 2003 .......
As it was mentioned above, Van Dyke and Elliott did an outstanding job, because they were radio legends of their own, already back in the 80's. Can you imagine one of the more recent guest hosts ( including Seacrest ) would become a "radio legend" himself ?? Not really ..... no one has that shape and profile to do so. I believe the time of these amazing radio talents is long over. In the era of computers and more music less talk the remaining outstanding talents like Casey are dinosaurs. As long as they can't aquire a big name for the shows again like Charlie Tuna, Charlie VanDyke or Mark Elliott for instance, I don't want to hear a guesthosted show again. But since they're all rejected, signed otherwise or get back in private life, this will probably never happen again. Especially I don't want to hear from Seacrest again at one of Casey's shows. He now has his own playground and I can't imagine he would get another Casey job again. There is no audience for him on the other formats. AC and HOT AC audience has grown up with outstanding radio talents, not casting heroes !

You come down so hard on Ryan Seacrest and I do not understand why. Ok, you dont like hin or the fact that that Casey Kasem no longer host American Top 40 and that the show has changed. I get that. But why do you think just because you dont like Seacrest he won't be a radio legend. I do think he wil be one. He is in his mid-20's and if he keeps this up then no doubt he will be one.

According to the imdb, Seacrest will be 31 in December. I don't really care for his style, nothing against him personally. But I will point out that the only sub-board on this site that has no new threads at all posted during this month is the one titled "American Top 40 With Ryan Seacrest".....

I honestly dont think he is that old, I thought he was younger than me but I guess I could be wrong. I am not saying he is OUR favorite host or favorite DJ. But Radioman comes down on him hard saying he has no talent and by what he said and has said in the past he will never be a radio legend, and I think just the opposite. He is VERY hard working, has talent, is fine for this up and coming generation and will be THEIRS and probably the next generations "Casey Kasem" just as ours and the previous was the man himself (and Dick Clark of course )
