That is a possibility...but why would he not have done this in years past? Also - Rick Dees takes plenty of time off, but rather than have substitute hosts he prerecords special countdowns, such as his infamous "All Request Specials"....or he will pre-track voicetracks and then a celebrity co-host will come and do the show, generally mentioning all of the chart numbers....and then they will insert Rick's pretracked segments and it gives the impression that Rick and the celebrity co-hosted the show together. The all request shows are generally the same times every year....July 4 weekend I think and like the week or two after Thanksgiving. Also, Rick usually gives a numerical position for a few of the songs on those shows also where there is a co host....at least he used to.

On my affiliate that runs both Casey and Dees, often times back when Casey was taking time off the Ed McMann hosted shows coincided with the All Request Specials.

Casey took some of the same weeks off I assume. The one around Thanksgiving is one he has taken off for years. I used to be amazed at how the November week he would be off is the week the show locally would start on time and end late due to all the local commercials. I began to think the market had fallen in love with Mark Elliott or something. I noticed beginning in November 1993 though that coincidentally that problem no longer existed. ;D

Well people -- unless I have messed up in the math somewhere -- if Casey hosts this weekends shows, June 18-19, which I see no reason for him not to, he will beat his all time record set in 1970-1971 with 70 consecutive weeks of shows hosted.

I haven't heard otherwise from good sources, so I believe this WILL happen.

While I love Casey and the shows....I find it a bit hard to believe that Casey will never have another guest host ever again. Unless Casey is now tracking the shows no matter where he is located in the world on a given Wednesday/Thursday. Although you would think at age 73 he would want to take time off on occasion. Unless, as has been mentioned before, Casey is saving all of his off time in order to take a pay-off and retire a few years early (I'm not sure exactly how his new contract with Premiere is set up). If this is the case...while it makes total sense and I respect Casey and his decision.... I would much rather hear a subhost once every few weeks and get an extra year or two out of Casey countin' 'em down. Would love to know any more you can tell us Radioman.

I don't think Casey would take a "pay-off" to finish earlier with his contract. I can't imagine this could be part of his current contract. Would it make sense ? If he wanted to do so, he would have signed a shorter contract, wich he obviosly didn't wanted to do so. As mentioned many times before and published everywhere, Casey signed a new contract with Premiere in December 2003, wich takes him well into the next decade. No speculations about an early end needed ans usefull ! You truly can enjoy Casey couting down for at least 6 or 7 years to come, not knowing of an upcoming extension in the future. Infact there is a chance you will hear some subhost again once in a while: If Casey is unable to do the show by illness or something like that. This happened 3 times before in 1985, 1987 and 2002. The last time he was out in 2002, there were massive speculations about this, wich were complete nonsens at all. Everybody can get a flu or laringitis once in a while. Especially for a radio talent it's more difficult to handle than for you and me out here. Since the show(s) is identified with Casey, it does make sense to get rid of this guesthost syndrome every few weeks. Especially since the times of the really great guesthosts is long gone. If you look at the guesthosts of the past 10 years, there was no one wich is was really enjoyful to listen ( yes Paul, we know about your personal "favourite"

Casey records both shows on the same day each week. I believe usually on a Wednesday, though I'm aware of teh day shifting every now and then for a one-week basis due to sometihng else Casey has on.
I don't know of any instances of Casey doing the show from outside his usual studio, but the fact of the matter is that in this day and age, this is extremely possible thanks to ISDN phone connection technology that allows him to sit in any radio studio in any part of the world, and send his voice back to the usual production team in Hollywood (actually, Sherman Oaks).
But the biggest thing that people don't seem to consider, here...Casey may just look at it from the standpoint of how much he enjoys doing the shows. He's only got a two-show commitment now, with many features repeated on both shows (and often therefore only recorded once). The demands on him now are much less than when he was hosting three shows over two days.
Furthermore, Casey's realistic enough to know that he is probably on his final radio contract, and may well just be enjoying himself while he can. Think about Dick Clark. Casey and Dick are good friends, and I'm sure Dick didn't plan on being pulled off the air by illness at this age. Fact is, we "mere mortals" can't predict this kind of thing, and so therefore it may just be a case of Casey enjoying doing what he loves and assuming nothing about tomorrow or next week.
As someone said in another post...we haven't heard a truly decent guest host in years (in my opinion, not since March of 1993 when Mark Elliot sat in for Casey for the final time). We've been getting non-stop Casey for over a year now. If you want to complain about that, go ahead...this is an open forum. I, for one, am thrilled that Casey's been there non-stop for this long period. I've enjoyed each and every show.
