Here's the upset! I'm not finished, but I'm taking off the rest of the day. 4385 Tracy Chapman 3354 A Taste Of Honey 3233 Extreme 3065 Climax Blues Band 3056 Soul II Soul Take a deep deep sigh, my friend! You are doing great work! I think Tracy gets an asterisk just because the second hit came in a time when many songs that would have been top 40 hits on CT were not compiled on Billboard, which skews the chart in her favor. Still, "Reason" was a huge hit, and "Fast Car" was a big hit as well. But a 1000 point lead shows the differences in the charts. Of course, one could argue the charts in 1989 were different than say, 1979, so whatever. This is why we all love being a part of this group...for the love of the charts, and the debate that goes with it! Again, great work. Know this is appreciated by many!

BB (BT) is already on the list to be done. I want to know how Brent fares if we count both his 1987 group and his 1990 solo top 40 hits. I always forget GW only had 2 pop hits, since they had more on rock, and, with then living near another country's border, I heard so many more of their songs on the radio. Now to research what's up with Los Del Rio. "Dare" is one of my favorite songs of all time. And yeah, Great White was one that had popped in my head and I have never wrapped my head around the fact that they had less hits hit the 40 than, say, Winger and Slaughter. And yes, you have me curious about LDR...like to see how it pans out!

Regarding Los Del Rio, I think Wikipedia is on crack.
I looked at all of the 1995 Hot 100s. For the week ending 1995 09 02, the week MJ's You Are Not Alone debuted at #1, the Bayside Boys Remix of Macarena debuted at #70. Doesn't look like the original charted on the Hot 100. I will double check, but it looks like a scam. Whew! Once again, I think they are a one hit wonder, as the Christmas version of the Macarena only got to #57, per Wikipedia. Oh, geez, I bet I have to double check that, too. Oy AND vey.

Janis Ian, yes. Animotion, no (three.) Good catch! I forget "Let Him Go" hit the top 40. It is up there in that 1985 realm of Boy Meets Girl and Go West! in which I forget which groups slipped into the 40 with a small hit, and which groups just missed it. Another one from 1989 that would be interesting is Great White. And also from that time, even though he had one hit solo and one hit as a duo, Brent Bourgeois. One minor quibble, Janis Ian's first Top 40 Society's Child hit #14 in 1967, so it's pre AT40 era, otherwise I would have her on my favorites list!

This issue of different charts and different chart compilation on the same chart (see Hot 100 in 1972 when hits zipped up and down the chart fairly quickly then 1980 when songs were not zipping up and down the chart and finally 1996 when the only zipping being done was when hits debuted as high as #1 then the molasses treatment ensued). And those years I mentioned were just examples. Many other set of years have the same situation among them. Bottom line, the best way to deal with this is to simply add the peak positions of hits and divide by two. Or in the case of Evanescence which I alluded to in another thread for three hit wonders, their total for peak positions is 10 (1,2,7). Divide that by 3 for an aggregate average of 3.33 and go from there. That said, these numbers that giannirubino has compiled are an impressive set of work and certainly are a great comparison for artists from the same time frame.

Pretty cool to see that two of my three favorite are in the top 4… :-) Tracy Chapman and Climax Blues… Tone Loc is a ways down on the list, but I love seeing all the numbers.

Silver Convention gets shorted in that both of their top 2 hits were from a short chart run period--1975-76.

How about two hit wonders - first time solo or a group and second time in a group or solo - if it fits the catagory? Some examples: Bryan Ferry - "Love is the Drug" with Roxy Music, "Kiss and Tell" solo. Limahal - "Too Shy" with Kajagoogoo, "The Never Ending Story" solo. Dan Baird - "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" with the Georgia Satillites, "I Love You Period" solo. Chris Norman - "Living Next Door to Alice" with Smokie, "Stumblin' In" solo in a duet with Suzi Quartro

Tommy Page is already there, 2143.
George Lamond is 1 hit wonder. WDTLL peaked at #59 on the Hot 100. Lisette Melendez is a 1 hit wonder. ADIMLWY reached #49 on the Hot 100. Chris Isaak is a 1 hit wonder. SC hit #45 on the Hot 100.
Naughty By Nature had 4 top 40 hits on the Hot 100, all in the 1990s.
I will indeed tabulate Chris Norman, Bryan Ferry, Brent Bourgeois, Limahl and Dan Baird.

Where will Dream, Enya and KT Tunstall show up? Those will be done another day.
Vonda Shepard is a one hit wonder. I did not see Searchin' My Soul on the Hot 100 in 1997 or 1998. Kiiara is a 1 hit wonder. Heavy only got to #45 on the Hot 100. Sisqo is a THREE hit wonder, if by the skin of his teeth, all 1999-2000.
