yeah but I doubt the network cares all that much. Some stations run ACC on Saturday mornings and I can see them still running in many markets. And if not, ABC will get a taste of what is in store for them the following week and beyond.

Also - is Christmas in America a different show every year? I dont know, last year was the first time I have heard any of it. I believe so since it is apparently pretty popular, but I dont know for sure.

Brett, ABC announced Kix's first show will not be until January 21st (speaking of eerily similarities to 1988/89, does that date sound familiar? ) The odd thing is that Bob is asking people to tune in "for our annual top 50 of the year special" in two weeks, so he's in effect advertising his new show on his old one, haha. I can only assume that ABC will go with guest hosts for the year end show and the first two weeks of January, but will they say they're sitting in for Bob? Or Kix? Or just make no mention of either? Good thing for ABC that Bob's name is not actually in any of the jingles, so they don't have to do like Westwood One and make new jingles calling it "the countdown" for 3 weeks.

As Jeffster stated earlier, Kix Brooks is all set to debut on ::cough cough:: over 400 stations ::cough cough:: as host of American Country Countdown on January 21. I just read this on All Access.com. First i was wondering if where Jeffster read it maybe accidentally stuck a "2" in the date. But apparently there will be a couple of weeks with someone else. They also have the affiliate agreement if you would like to see it online: www.abcradionetworks.com/ComingSoon-Kix.pdfAlso, if you go to allaccess.com, the new logo is running as an ad on top of the site...at least it was when I was there a few minutes ago. Now then, my opinion is the logo looks like something out of the mid 80's and no I am not trying to find things to complain about. A blue and black cartoon guitar with stars on it and the words "American Country Countdown" written on the guitar really just doesn't do it for me. Also, JANUARY 21ST?? So, the old show is going to have a hosting lapse while the brand new upstart show has all it's ducks in a row ready to go the 1st of January. Good luck with that ABC. I hope all of your hundreds , tens ones of affiliates and listeners will love the guest hosting deal for a few weeks being they are probably all nervous enough as it is.

I wouldn't count ACC out quite so soon. I have contacted every ACC affiliate around me (there are 3) and haven't gotten a response from any of them. I also heard that some stations wont be able to back out of ACC due to contract obligations.

but contract obligations only last so long. Are there such things as long term radio contracts? It seems like stations can drop shows whenever they feel like it and pick up others.
And given the history of radio programming in your area Brett, ALL 3 will probably keep the show, add Bobs new one, and take on another country music show for good measure. Do any local DJ's work on the weekend there?

Hahahaha. That was the first good laugh i've had since we started finals. I guess I never realize how many shows we do get. 2 AT20 affiliates and an AT10 affiliate at home...and a different AT20 affiliate 95 miles away at college that runs the show twice a week.
My guess is it will be much like Shadoe.....people may give Kix a try, but sooner rather than later the novelty will be long gone and Bob's new show will be on!

No. Most radio contracts have 90 day cancellation clauses. Any radio station can drop a show so long as they give the network 90 days' notice. And most will do that, then run the spots only (which is really sadly all that matters in network radio) for the remaining 90 days. The converse is actually also true. The NETWORK can give 90 days notice and yank the show off a particular radio station. I don't believe that this gets invoked that often, and the only case I can see it happening in is where an O&O wants a particular show in a particular market and it's already on another station. That is...if Hot AC station WXYZ (located in Anywhere, USA), owned by "Lakefield Broadcasting" (no such thing in reality) is carrying AT20, and Clear Channel comes along and starts up WZYX, a competing Hot AC in Anywhere, they can "yank" AT20 off of the "Lakefield Broadcasting" station and put it on their O&O station.

Run what spots only? Commercials? Networks still invoke that?!
Thats actually kind of wierd about the networks abd 90 days thing. The reason I say that is CC owns a Top 40 station here in Cowford and the Cox owned other Top 40 station runs AT40. The CC owned station said they DO want to run Seacrest's show, but since the other station has an agreement with them, they can't. Would this be a long term agreement or what?

Yes. Run the commercials but not the actual show content. WNIC did this in the summer of 2004 with AT10.

Let's see..90 days...the announcement of Kix Brooks was made public November 9th..so by my calculations, Kix's show will suddenly drop from a ton of radio stations on or about the 2nd week of February.

Question, when a show is given clearance between 6am Saturday-Midnight Sunday, does that mean the show has to START in that time, or does it have to end by midnight Sunday?

I interpret that as the show can not start prior to 6am and must conclude by Midnight on either Saturday or Sunday. Basically, this prohibits using the show as overnight filler.
Personally, if I syndicated a show, I think I would move that 6am to 8am.....but then I probably would lose affiliates. Then again, as a syndicator, I like to think I would care about my show(s).
BTW, I just finished up a class called Media and Society here at Allegheny. It was taught by an 84-year old former radio personality who is still sharp as a tack and probably in better shape than me. He and I had some great talks about radio "then and now". He also was part of the group that brought cable TV to our homes. Amazing guy, and amazing old time radio stories.
