Just curious to see how deep some of you go with AT40 artists and their songs which may have just missed the Top 40, just barely scarped the bottom of the Hot 100 or maybe didn't even chart. I love many of Fleetwood Mac's Top 40 songs but most of them fall into the slightly overplayed category... they have lost a little of their special feeling for me. "Hypnotized", sung by Bob Welch, is an awesome tune. The percussion line on this one is incredible: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDzXbdxeeHII'm hot and cold with The Who but "Love Reign O'er Me" is one outstanding song with an awesome ending: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PnXts0Ni8II love The Talking Heads, and they have had many great tunes which weren't played on Top 40 stations, my favorite being "Life During Wartime": www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NywTcGOUkEFor as much airplay as this Lynyrd Skynyrd tune gets today, it's amazing that "Simple Man" never hit the Hot 100. I could listen to this tune for hours on end: www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-5aPNxv-pUI love many David Bowie songs but there's something about "The Man Who Sold The World" that I really love. The production on this tune is a little crude by today's standards but I think that adds to the tune. The addition or layering of voices in the end is incredible: www.youtube.com/watch?v=g33-W9t2q2QI probably have more but those come to mind now. How deep is your love for certain AT40 artists?

For some artists, it's hard for me to pick just one.
I agree about "Hypnotized" by Fleetwood Mac. That's a great song. But I also love "The Chain".
For Steely Dan, there are too many to mention. "Kid Charlemagne", "The Fez", "I Got the News", "Aja", "Night by Night", "Bodhisattva", "The Royal Scam", "Pretzel Logic", etc.
For Bruce Springsteen, I love "Spirit in the Night" and "Jungleland".
The Cars: "Candy-O", "Moving in Stereo", "Dangerous Type"
Aerosmith: "Toys in the Attic", "Train Kept a Rollin'"
The Rolling Stones: "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"
David Bowie: "Ashes to Ashes"
To get away from classic rock, here are a few other choices:
Duran Duran: "Girls on Film"
The Buggles: "Living in the Plastic Age"
The SOS Band: Like seminolefan, my choice is "Just Be Good to Me".
Run-DMC: "Rock Box"
Chaka Khan: "Through the Fire"

Summer Breeze by the Isley Brothers peaked at #60 in April of 1974.
Maybe because of the crappy single edit...?

Still to this day, 31 years later, I'm flummoxed that Crowded House's "Better Be Home Soon" didn't crack the 40.

I have a few off the top of my head: The aforementioned "A Night To Remember" Maureen McGovern: "If You Could Read My Mind" Gino Vannelli: "Wild Horses" (HM: "Black Cars") The Hooters: "All You Zombies" (thanks, listenerwants2know 🙂) Cliff Richard: "Give A Little Bit More" Rush: Lots to choose from... "Spirit Of Radio", "Tom Sawyer", etc. I'm sure there's more, but my tired brain is telling me to give it a rest. To be continued...

Amen to Gino Vannelli's "Black Cars" and "Wild Horses," The Hooters' "All You Zombies," and to Maureen McGovern's "Can You Read My Mind."
I'd add: Kate Bush's "Babooshka," "Hounds Of Love" and "Sat In Your Lap," Genesis' "Carpet Crawlers" and "Home By The Sea," Devo's "Peek-A-Boo," "Working In A Coal Mine," and "That's Good," Human League's "The Lebanon" and "Love Action," Don Henley's "New York Minute," and Kim Carnes' "You Make My Heart Beat Faster."
Oh, and Jefferson Starship's "Stranger" and Peter Cetera's "Living In The Limelight."
