Those '89 extras make '89 seem a lot better than I remember it.

Those '89 extras make '89 seem a lot better than I remember it. I feel that way about 1988, '89, and '90, and 1987 to a lesser degree. All those years had so many good songs that didn't reach the top 40 (and some that didn't even chart on the Hot 100). There was a lot of hot garbage that made it high into the top 40 during that time, while several great songs were ignored.

Man, are they thin-skinned over there at FoxOldies.com! Point out that they've got the wrong Billboard chart positions on their posted Top 50 Flashback Countdown chart for this week in '81 and both on-air people get REALLY defensive. Like I insulted their Mamas...

Like I insulted their Mamas... Actually the guy who posted the chart on the blog put the wrong positions, not Jeffrey Lindenblatt, who compiled the chart. Sam sent me a copy because I like to make playlists out with them as well and they all had the correct chart positions for each song that week. So it was the blogger who got it wrong, not Jeffrey or Sam.

These guys have a clear idea of how they want to present this great music. They aren't perfectionists; that's for sure.

LOVE Fox Oldies and Sam Meyers (station owner, program director and regular live DJ). He and those who help him do an AMAZING job with all of his American Music Chronological shows, Flashback Top 5O Countdown shows and the 3 Different Top 2500 countdowns of songs from 1964-1991. Check out the live chat when you listen and you’ll find a wonderful group of music fans and chart geeks as well. It’s all about the music. :-) Been listening to this station since March 2015.

There was a lot of good music produced in the last few years of the 80s, but we weren't hearing much of it on Top 40 radio. Rock, alternative, dance / house, and hip hop was where it was at.

The last hour of AMC today included the beginning of AMC 1991 using the R&R chart. It also featured Sam's voice every time we moved to a new week.

I really appreciate that Sam played the extras at the end (from "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC through "My Head's in Mississippi" by ZZ Top) mostly in alphabetical order by artist. These songs are mainly album cuts that didn't chart in the Hot 100. It makes it a lot easier to follow along for me. (I think this is the first time they were alphabetized.)

I know "You Gotta Love Someone" made the top 40 reaches of Gavin Report used for "Dave Sholin's Insider Top 40".
