October 1969 And That Reminds Me by the Four Seasons - yikes it sounds SO MUCH like Philly Disco from '73 or '74. Was Barry White involved? I can't think of an earlier disco-sounding hit. Okay so I just checked Barry White on Wikipedia. No mention of And That Reminds Me. But wow it sure sounds like his work.

Listening to 12/18/1965 - You know, the best Top Ten Beach Boys song of the winter of 65/66 wasn't Barbara Ann. It was She's Just My Style. Not even close. I wonder how Brian Wilson felt hearing that on the radio - honored? or ticked off? Seriously, Gary and the Boys had a 1.000 batting average. Every hit was great.

June 1966
Man, I love 1966.
Why wasn't Take Some Time Out for Love by the Isley Brothers a big hit? What a groove!

Listening to the 6-28-69 show. The Top 4 songs (no spoilers) all debuted on the same date on the Top 100--5-3-69. That is a rare event!

A few weeks ago, I made a comment about how two songs by the Beatles were featured on a SiriusXM broadcast of AT40, and that led me to record a countdown featuring one of those two songs--June 25, 1966. In addition, I featured a few 'bonus' songs that made the Billboard Top 40 but didn't make the Cash Box Top 40. Enjoy-- Joe archive.org/details/cbc-1966062501

I have only the Top Four of 11/14/1970 to listen to and I'll Be There pun intended.

I wonder if that happened in any other weeks for ten years or more. That's remarkable.

The handclaps on Keep Searchin' drive me nuts. Why didn't the producer, Harry Balk, take a couple of minutes to synchronize the handclaps with the beat of the song?

Along the same lines as Lorne Greene's chart success being helped by his choice of song titles, how about this. Did LOVE ME WITH ALL YOUR HEART benefit from confusion of source? When people heard that it was The Ray Charles Singers, were some of them more interested in the record? I think it wouldn't be hard to assume they were the same folks who sang on I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU, which did pretty well chart wise.

Who needs hallucinogenic drugs when we have Joe?
Listening to 04/15/1967, I heard him play TELL ME TO MY FACE then PIPE DREAM then STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER back-to-back-to-back and all the colors got very bright and I felt queasy and a compulsion to jump out a window. I need Jack Webb to come slap my face and lecture me about goofballs, etc.
EDIT - Ed Ames just made it all better.
EDIT - I wonder how the Dave Clark Five felt the first time they heard the MONKEES THEME. Never made the connection in my mind before but listening to 09/65 today wow that is CATCH US IF YOU CAN PART DEUX.

Okay so someone explain to me how Donny Osmond (solo) had multiple huge hits before his voice changed. I can't fathom any boy, or any girl over the age of ten wanting to either buy or listen to those songs. Seriously. Has there ever been anything like that for an artist with multiple Top Ten hits?
And talk about an upside-down countdown. A bunch of evergreen classic songs near the bottom and some garbage near the top.
Jungle Fever over Tiny Dancer. Puppy Love over Taxi. And I never heard this Dennis Coffey song before listening to this show. There's a bunch like that on these 163 shows but this one was #14!

I never heard that tune, Taurus, before needing to find it for this show either--and I lived in Detroit at the time. I wonder if the song was a hit in certain areas of the country and not in others. I suppose many teen girls were buying 45's by the Osmonds and Jacksons--and Harry Chapin and Elton John appealed more to album buyers (which wouldn't be as reflected on the 'singles' chart).

Soundalike intros from 10/12/1968
Bang Shang A Lang and Time Has Come Today
Of course, people have been confusing the Chambers Brothers with the Archies for years, though the Chambers' Saturday morning show pilot didn't get picked up by CBS.
ha ha kidding they didn't do a pilot - sarcasm and the internet, etc.

Is it just me - or have these shows been freezing up a lot more than usual the past couple of weeks?
I'm too old to play Musical Chairs.
But maybe it's just me and my provider.

I suppose many teen girls were buying 45's by the Osmonds and Jacksons--and Harry Chapin and Elton John appealed more to album buyers (which wouldn't be as reflected on the 'singles' chart). Being A Taurus, I was a big fan of the song when it charted. Wish it made it higher on Cashbox & Billboard (#18). The Detroit Guitar Band also featured Funk Brothers bassist Bob Babbitt. Became even more of a fan when I learned Dennis Coffey was a member of the Funk Brothers in the late 60s. Some of the recordings that featured Dennis Coffey include "Cloud Nine", "Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today)", and "Psychedelic Shack" by The Temptations, Edwin Starr's "War", Diana Ross & The Supremes' "Someday We'll Be Together", and Freda Payne's "Band of Gold". In case you're wondering, he did try to chart astrologically a third time with "Capricorn's Thing" in 1973 but missed. He did reach the Hot 100 with a pair of #93 peaking singles "Getting It On" and "Ride, Sally, Ride". He would reach to Top 40 a final time as producer of "Devil's Gun" by C J & Company.
