I know I enjoy Professor of Rock videos on Youtube and an interview with members of the Zombies and their song Time of the Season led me to record this countdown from Cash Box magazine for the week ending March 29, 1969. Enjoy-- Joe archive.org/details/cbc-1969032901

I saw where someone posted (in a separate thread) about Rick Dees starting his countdown show in October 1983, using the Cash Box charts. Well, if Rick had started a few weeks earlier this is what the Top 40 in Cash Box sounded like-- archive.org/details/cbc-1983091701/CBC1983091701.mp3

I was thinking Electric Avenue but apparently I was a couple of months too late for that. So SPOILER ALERT for others who will think Electric Avenue. It isn't #1.

Semi spoiler alert--takes some digging: It is a song that week on BB dropped from its peak of #4 to #8.

Interesting fact: The #1 on BB that week only peaked at #3 on CB, and was down from that peak to #5. "Strange things indeed."

Chris, be glad you weren't graded on your guess, since you would have been off by 63 points as your guess was at #64 on the chart!

Yes Joe apparently I had my early summer 1983 confused with my late summer 1983! They're both "summer" but wow - very different mindsets.

I wanted to share that after evaluating how many 1964-1970 countdowns I completed that there are a few too many gaps, so I am in the process of adding in a few shows during that time frame. This way someone can listen to all the 'Beatles' years and be better prepared to listen to AT40 when it debuts in July, 1970.

I love very single show you have made from Cashbox and Rewind! Thanks so much for all your efforts, and so appreciated.

I am relistening to 10-18-75, and just blown away at all the great music, and wow, Joe, you are playing the album versions of several of the songs! Thanks so much. For anyone who wants to relisten to the show, it's on page 3 of this very thread. Enjoy, as I sure have!

Checking every Sunday and Monday, your usual upload days. But still...158 shows...158...158...158...

I am impressed, Chris, that you actually counted the shows! Those were pages and pages of the Cashbox thread! Thanks for passing on your labor of love tabulations!

Just listening the other day to March 1966, and you've got to hand it to Sgt. Sadler for keeping Nowhere Man AND California Dreamin' AND 19th Nervous Breakdown (temporarily) from reaching #1. Those are some iconic songs. Especially the first two. My God they are timeless. Must be the harmonies. There's a clip on YouTube of the Mamas and the Papas singing Nowhere Man on Hullabaloo. Wow! I usually use Random Org to pick a # between 1 and 158 to choose the show I will listen to and count down from the most recent to the oldest. So I ended up with March 1966 the other day and just now I got...April 1966. What are the odds? Well, I guess the odds are 1 in 158 that I would pick the very next show.
