He said ".", Joe. Maybe it was going to be a question about Cash Box hits on the Dot record label?

I wish I could remove a post. XD Or, I was inspired by Dan Baird's 1992 hit. Funny! One of my room mates , about 10 years back, was a class mate of Dan's--who also happened to be Dan (White). He used to talk about the former Georgia Satellite's front man quite often, long before he became famous. Thanks for the 'accidental' trip down memory lane. Which is what these old Countdowns are all about.

Listening now to 01/21/1967. Spyder Turner was no Rich Little. I hope he didn't quit his day job. This random number idea is eerie sometimes. This time it chose the same week we are in now. No Rich Little, and no Eddie Murphy. You probably remember Eddie, in the Showtime special "Delirious" (1983), doing spot-on impersonations of Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Teddy Pendergrass, Elvis Presley, James Brown, and Stevie Wonder. Night-and-day difference. Of course, I can't quote any of it here...

Just thought of a new question.
What was the highest charting Cash Box hit between January 1964 and June 1970 that does not appear on a Cash Box Countdown show?
I have no idea, but maybe someone does? Factors might be - years with the most songs - for Billboard Hot 100 that was a tie between 1966 and 1967 - and - longest stretch between Countdowns - which I think is probably somewhere around four weeks?
Okay so there are only three shows between 08/26/1967 and 12/02/1967, so maybe that is a good place to start. That's three shows in 13 weeks.
I see Memphis Soul Stew by King Curtis peaking at #39 in the week ending 10/26/1967.
So Joe? How could you deprive us of Memphis Soul Stew? What do you have against King Curtis???
There are also stretches of 13 weeks with only three shows in August/September/October of 1968 and 1969.
Okay we have Where Do I Go/Be-In (Hare Krishna) by the Happenings peaking at #38 week ending 08/09/1969 - weekend of the Tate/LaBianca Murders. Yes, I would have remembered hearing that one! And Joe, I'm fine with us missing it! This also means that SEVEN songs from the Hair Soundtrack made the Cash Box Top 40.

Chris, I have recorded a Rewind Countdown (using Record World) that has that Happenings song on it; as far as King Curtis that song only ended up in the Cash Box Top 40 for one week (10/21/67). The original plan with the 1960's shows was to make sure every Top 20 hit got played at least once during the Beatles time frame (Jan 1964-June 1970). Maybe if I get enough requests for certain songs I could go back and fill in some of the gaps between shows so that more of those forgotten gems get played. Joe

Joe it was fun scanning those countdowns and knowing what all but two of those hundreds of hits sound like. And you’re the reason for that. Several years ago I probably would have heard only about 75 percent of them, and I was already 60 years old. So I’ve done a lot of catching up, really quickly! The only other CBC excluded song I noticed in the weeks I looked at, peaking at #40, was The Windows of the World, ironically, from The List.

Y'know, I have been mulling over doing a 'special' countdown of Burt Bacharach songs (at least from 1960's-1980's)--since it would feature a lot of different singers and a wide variety of music. Perhaps, it could be a combination of all the Top 40 songs he had a hand in writing that made the Big 3 (BB/CB/RW). Although, I am going to take a break from doing any shows during Lent.

Now that would be a great countdown. Someone in the other forum mentioned Smokey and Holland/Dozier/Holland. I wonder how many Top 40 hits they wrote. Maybe enough for two other countdowns for you to do. After Lent of course. And after the first of many Easy Listening Countdowns. Wow per Wikipedia Smokey had about 70. I think that beats Burt. And Holland-Dozier-Holland had about 35. In the TOP TEN!

Chris,
I scrapped the idea of doing Easy Listening countdowns, after realizing the music that made that chart in the 1960's was too 'boring' (mostly show tunes or slowed down versions of Top 40 hits)--and after 1970 the A/C charts and CHR charts were about 75% the same (thanks to the popularity of Mellow Rock).
I might post one show where I share a few memories of working at my first station in Alabama, that was A/C formatted.

Surprised that Cash Box wasn't accused of payola when it came to the hits of the Jackson 5/Michael Jackson between 1970-72, as they had the most #1's on the CB pop charts. Here is another example-- archive.org/details/cbc-1972041501By the way, of course, there are a few songs that made the CB 40 that didn't make it onto AT40 (since these songs peaked below #40 on the Billboard chart). Enjoy-- Joe

I'm surprised no one has put a mashup of It's Impossible and The Way of Love on YouTube. That could be really good.

"The Way Of Love" had been in the Kapp Records library way before Cher made it a hit. Original version was Kathy Kirby in 1965 as djjoe1960 alluded. I own a mid-60s 45 of the song by Ronnie Dio! Yes, Ronnie James Dio. Yes the Jackson Five had that run of #1s in the 70s on Cashbox. All three of the Jackson Five Billboard #2 singles (Mama's Pearl, Dancing Machine, Never Can Say Goodbye) topped the Cashbox charts. Let's not forget that Stevie Wonder topped the Cashbox charts 15 times as opposed to 9 on Billboard. Then there's "Son Of My Father" by Giorgio (Moroder). Could never get that Moog synthesizer riff out of my head when it made it s brief chart run in Chicago (#23 WLS). There was a version out at the same time by Chicory (Tip). Only peaked at #82 on Cashbox, but topped the UK charts.

Too bad the album version of "Jump Into The Fire" never received an AT40 play, with oldies by Elvis, Nancy Sinatra, and Kay Starr (Kay Starr?!!) filling program time instead.

Whenever I hear Jump Into The Fire it reminds me to keep stirring the sauce. I'm getting old and sped through your post and at first I thought you had said that Kay Starr recorded a version of Jump Into The Fire.
