Well, as you may have heard, Ryan is going to be hosting late night coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics from Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Will he try hosting AT40 from there as well? There's only six hours difference between Rio and L.A.

He might well do so; he hosted the show from London during the 2012 Olympics, which to my knowledge is the first time AT40 was ever broadcasted from outside its home country.

My guess is he will likely record a few weeks worth of voicetracks in LA before leaving and they will piece shows together from that. I still am cynical enough to believe that is how the London shows were done in 2012.

Or there could be two weeks of guest-hosted AT40 shows. Ryan did the show from London during the 2012 Olympics, and I am not sure if he was involved with Olympic coverage that summer. This time around, it may be a totally different story. He might well do so; he hosted the show from London during the 2012 Olympics, which to my knowledge is the first time AT40 was ever broadcasted from outside its home country. Might not be true. I could of sworn I read on Walt Bailey's site that one or two episodes from the final weeks of Shadoe Stevens' AT40 (one of them being from December 1994) were recorded somewhere in Europe?

The only times Shadoe recorded elsewhere were the times he did the Disney World specials. The notes on Walt's site mean the copy of the show he has was recorded off the air from a European radio station.

I still am cynical enough to believe that is how the London shows were done in 2012. Nevermind the plain old regular shows that may very well use clips from On Air anyway? In other words if it's already standard operating procedure even without any special circumstances, why should the special circumstance situations be any different? *shrug*

Hello from Rio de Janeiro, broadcasting from here, that is what Ryan has just said in the intro of AT40 Week 16-32.

So does be mention anything about being there elsewhere or does he as a host say a lot during the show about songs and numerical positions? I am one of the people who actually believe he's doing the show from there and not just pretending to.

I would think this weekend the show was already done before Ryan left for Rio. It is a regular show and follows the current format of having significant talk breaks and chart info. If that continues in the next few weeks, perhaps my skepticism will be wrong and he actually will be cutting AT40 voicetracks in Rio.

I am convinced Ryan recorded these shows prior to leaving for Rio. He just did the intro to Hymm for the Weekend and mentioned Michael J Fox joined Coldplay on stage at a show "the other day" - a quick search shows that occured on July 18. He is also careful not to mention a single current event or anything specific to the Olympic games. I could be wrong still. But I know how radio works

He recorded them in Rio. Everything these radio hosts do is entirely above board and with listeners first. He would never, ever, ever lie to us.

Just like when I asked listeners to call in between 8-9pm to vote for what they wanted to hear on our Top 9 at 9 - our nightly "all-request" countdown where "you" voted on the songs you wanted to hear each night.

Also - I fully believe pop music is better than it has been in a long time. I find myself listening to it during the week on XL and have been making it a point to listen to AT40 on Saturday mornings and actually have set the alarm to hear the whole show the last couple weeks. Haven't done that since Casey, save for year end shows. That said, this "Toothbrush" song could be one of the worst songs I have ever heard.
