For all who don't always make Ryan's AT40 part of their weekly listening schedule, you may want to squeeze in a few minutes this weekend.
I usually don't, but i'm awake getting ready for work and I just happened to have it on and wanted to post this since I know most stations still haven't run the show yet.
In the final segment of the show (at least the CHR show, i'm sure the Hot AC show as well) Ryan gives a nice tribute to the 35th anniversary of American Top 40 as his number one story.
He gives a brief history of the show, as well as playing a clip of Casey introducing Mama Told Me Not To Come.
Very good tribute Ryan, and I suggest everyone try to at least hear the last 10 minutes of AT40 this weekend.

Very nice! Glad to hear the anniversary didn't pass without acknowledgement from The Mothership.

But the thing has just a small, but important footnote: It's not 35 years of AT40, but it's 35 years of Casey Kasem.
Interesting to see how Seacrest and AT40 are trying to participate on that anniversary.

That would be because he HOST the show now, do you show the same contempt for American Bandstand recently celebrating 50 years? It hasn;t been around for all 50 either. Ryan, and AT40 just cant win with you no matter what they do. 5 years ago it was my understanding Casey basically referenced the show in the same manner with it being it's 30th anniversary.

In 2000, Casey played the first few moments of the very first AT40 broadcast from July 4th, 1970, up to the point where Number 40, "End of Our Road" by Marvin Gaye, begins playing. It was neat to hear what Casey sounded like back then and compare it to the 2000 Casey.

Actually, that was on 7/4/99, which I always thought was kind of odd, as it was the START of the show's 25th year, as opposed to the 25th anniversary of the start of the show. (It was actually the 24th anniversary of the start of the show that week.)

Interesting to see how Seacrest and AT40 are trying to participate on that anniversary. No, this is just part of the whole "revisionist" history that exists regarding AT40. When Casey brought back the show on 3/28/98, two things were implied for "casual" listeners (unlike us who have followed the show and its history very closely): 1. The show always existed, and didn't have a 7-year hiatus...which is because of number two... 2. The show has always been hosted by Casey Kasem. Shadoe Stevens never took over, and Casey never stopped counting down the top 40 (remember that for a lot of people, "Casey's Top 40" WAS AT40). Obviously, they didn't do this the second time there was a host change on AT40...from Casey to Ryan Seacrest. Ryan and Premiere have always acknowledged Casey having been the previous host of the show (not just a co-creator, as Shadoe had to legally mention in the show's credits during his run as host). So Ryan's tribute timeline ties in with this revisionist history...which is a LOT easier to explain to a casual listener than the way things really played out. I'm impressed that they did the tribute, and that Casey's voice circa 1970 was heard on the show. Big props to Ryan and the AT40 staff on that one. By the way, I found out last year that when Ryan mentioned that it was the 34th anniversary of AT40 on the 7/4/04 show, it was HIS idea to mention that. It was NOT written into the script. So, say what you want about Ryan, but there's certainly at least a part of him that understands he is hosting the "mothership" of all countdowns...and that this isn't merely "just another top 40 show." I give him a LOT of credit for that.

Dang, I knew I should've trademarked my phrase, "The Mothership"! ;D I appreciate anyone with a sense of history, especially those that take the time to praise those that came before them. Casey, Don and the rest gave birth to the baby. So props to Ryan for that.

OK, considered it trademarked...but you need to put the little (tm) next to it each time you use it.

So props to Ryan for that. one problem, Dusty Rhodes was calling WCW Saturday Night the mothership (Dusty actually sounded like he was saying "muttership") LONG before Ryan was calling AT40 that. So check with "The American Dream" before you try ;D

I'd never mess with the man who refers to himself as "285 pounds of twisted steel and sex appeal"! ;D

I give him a LOT of credit for that. In effective Premiere wanted it to look like if what Casey has done throughout the WW1 era, is all their's and he never worked for another company. The same way they are ruling over E-BAY for about 2 years now. They also cancel every auction with WW1 programmes from Casey, writing to people they would have a legal obligation to all of his programmes. But they DON'T !!! No one ever sold them the rights to the WW1 productions. If we'd do something like that at work, our company would get sued by the competitor .... And about Seacrest: Well he got his star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame; Think that is more than enough of crediting him for each and everything. So I don't have to thank him especially for what becomes naturally, when getting a great job wich was built by someone else.
