Does Premiere (or anybody else) syndicate "SOUNDTRACK OF THE SIXTIES"? And if so, does anyone know of any stations that stream the show? Hearing Gary Owens host AT 40 this past weekend makes me want to hear more of him. I had forgotten how good he was.

With us '70s kids getting to be too old for many target demos, a 60s-themed show wouldn't appeal to too many advertisers anymore--just reverse mortgages, "I've fallen and I can't get up" alert systems, burial insurance, mobility scooters, and walk-in bathtubs like you see on Me and Antenna TV!

Guys, let's not forget to thank the people at KMCH since they also ran the show (sans the optional extras).

To countdownmike, there were two breaks with dead air (normally there would be online filler, music). So there might be people who listened online to your station but bailed because they thought the station was down. It lasted the commercial break both times.

Glad it was during the breaks. Thoroughly enjoyed this show. It was great to hear Gary Owens again. Thanks Mike and WODC!

One break had Culture Club's "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?") during these breaks that wasn't played.

Thank you RNH, SFGuy and rustydj - It really was a fun listen. I'll look into the streaming issue as well!

Thank you RNH, SFGuy and rustydj - It really was a fun listen. I'll look into the streaming issue as well! The second one last 5:30 It lasted the entire commercial break. It occurred after the LDD "Respect" (from "Casey's Coast to Coast" to dead air). The ODC ID was the first thing heard followed by you describing the show and saying number 8 is next.

This past weekend, I finally got around to listening to the 2/28/76 show (via dar.fm), which was broadcast the same weekend as the Gary Owens show. One of the stations that I dar.fm'ed the 2/28/76 show from was 92.9 "The Lake" KHLA. KHLA ran an ad for the Gary Owens episode, indicating that it would be run on Sunday morning at 9:00. So now we know of four stations that carried it.
The ad, incidentally, was obviously produced by Premiere. It was voiced by Larry Morgan, referenced "American Top 40 - The '70s", and specifically mentioned the original air date of the show and that it had been guest-hosted by Gary Owens (so it wasn't a generic ad for the series, but one specifically produced for that episode). At the end there was space for the local station to add a voice-over with the time they would be running show. I used to hear these promos occasionally on WORC, which is local to me, when they used to carry AT40 - The '70s, but I've never encountered one otherwise. (WORC is now a country station; they flipped formats last fall.)

I haven't heard all the guest hosters, but this is LVKs favorite.

I have a copy of the Gary Owens hosted show from 9/12/81-It was fabulous-I grew up watching "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" & thought Gary was the perfect announcer for that particular show-He was great at wordplay-Too bad he was never asked to guest host for Casey again.

So I have another take. I just listened to the show and I thought it was ok. I love Owens, but his voice reminded me of another media personality I love: Bob Eubanks. They did a good job, but their cadence left me wanting just a little more as they counted them down. While we are talking about this show, maybe you all can help me understand something. When they got to "Start Me Up" Owens did a story of how the Rolling Stones were the last group standing from the original British Invasion. What I don't understand is the story was told, and three songs before we had the Moody Blues. Weren't the Blues part of the first invasion? Not to mention the Kinks hitting the top 40 in 1979 as well. It seemed like a pretty big error, but maybe I am wrong about when the Moody Blues first made a pop impact.

Not to mention the Kinks hitting the top 40 in 1979 as well. It seemed like a pretty big error, but maybe I am wrong about when the Moody Blues first made a pop impact. Moody's first U.S. chart single, "Go Now", entered the Hot 100 in Feb '65. Kinks were five months earlier, Sep '64, with "You Really Got Me". So the Kinks are unquestionably part of the 'original' British invasion using the 'first charted in the U.S. in 1964' definition, while the Moody Blues could be considered as part of the early 'second wave', using 'first charted in '65' as the definition for that. I think I used up my quote mark quota here...

He also left out the band that just hit with "You Better You Bet" earlier that same year, the Who. Their first chart single, "I Can't Explain," happened in '64.

Only two weeks in the Hot 100, with a #93 peak the second week. It had 'Bubbled Under' for three weeks prior to reaching the 100. The Who wouldn't have a U.S. top 40 single until the spring of 1967, when "Happy Jack" reached #24.
