The rumor is the Premiere will offer the Gary Owens guest-hosted AT40 show next weekend as a bonus. I hope we can find stations that will air it.
From what I remember, Gary did a nice job with a little bit of humor thrown in.

If true, it would be a pleasant and unexpected surprise. And I will happily eat my words when I said they would never offer anything guest hosted with the exception of the Dick Clark show.
My guess is it will be hard to track the show down, but a few stations may air it. I wonder if Mike will be able to get it for WODC as a Saturday night special - even though it is an 80s shows. I would think it would be offered to 70s and 80s affiliates, and the 1981 time period makes it suitable music wise for many stations.
Kudos to Premiere for possibly offering - and even though I know there will be whining, one station is better than none folks.
And Dave Wollenberg, if it airs, I hope you enjoy

Not a rumor; this is in fact happening.
Here's the catch, though: In addition to this, there's another double dose of regular shows set to be offered as well. (One would hope that either of the two gets nixed in favor of this as the alternative, though? Trying to track down THREE 80s shows in one weekend would be nothing short of madness.)
The reason I post this here instead of in the 80s thread, is because I do not yet know what regular 80s shows are scheduled (nor do I yet know anything regarding the 70s).

^Hopefully if this show does end up being hard to find on the weekend it's aired (and I assume it will), it will make it's way onto the iheart Casey channel...

BrettVW - I hope that rumor is true. I haven't seen anything official to that effect yet (about a Gary Owens show). But last year I was able to get the WODC powers-that-be used to hearing 80s shows as extras during the "tribute" period after Casey's death. And the Y2K show had years beyond that. So if the 1981 Owens show is made available to 70s affiliates, we'd probably treat it like a "B" show (or in this case a "AT40 Sunday Night Special"). We're a more 80s-based Classic Hits these days anyway. I'll let you know when I find out anything.

So at this point it'd just be a matter of getting the show and making room for it, which shouldn't be a problem next week since you'll only have one 70s show to account for (2/28/1976). As you said, you should be able to schedule it as you would a "B" show.

It's too bad Gary Owens didn't host an AT40 show in the 70s... I bet more 70s radio stations would be willing to play a Gary Owens show than an 80s station given Gary was best known in the late 60s and 70s.
On the other hand, given that Gary hosted a September AT40 show, maybe a few 80s stations might play his show in September? Some 80s stations might question playing a September show in February, even if a guest host with a fantastic voice just passed away.

As long as they are presented with a program that features musical selections they feel closely resemble their playlist and wont interfere with the PPM ratings, they likely couldn't care less on right there buddy you know if the time of year it is originally from.

Oh, yeah, I have very fond memories of listening to this great syndicated oldies show. I discovered it in the fall of '82, so I, sadly, missed out on hearing Murray the K. But I thoroughly enjoyed Gary Owens as host; he was hilarious. (Although he wasn't afraid to be serious on occasion, as when he eulogized Marvin Gaye after his tragic death.) And, of course, I thoroughly enjoyed most all the great '60s music that Gary Owens played. And, being that he was synonymous with a groundbreaking '60 hit TV show (Laugh-In), he was a perfect fit for a '60's oldies show.

Thanks Mike! Just to clarify, is the Owens show being offered to 70s affiliates? We don't have rights to 80s shows if not formally offered by Premiere.
