My favorite songs from this weekend's "A" shows:
2/20/71... My Top 5: * "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison (#1 peak) * "Just My Imagination" by The Temptations (#1 peak) * "She's A Lady" by Tom Jones (#2 peak) * "Your Song" by Elton John (#8 peak) * "Love The One You're With" by Stephen Stills (#14 peak)
2/27/88... My Top 7:
* "Got My Mind Set On You" by George Harrison (#1 peak) * "Hazy Shade Of Winter" by The Bangles (#2 peak) * "Don't Shed A Tear" by Paul Carrack (#9 peak)
* "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" by Prince (#10 peak) * "Pump Up The Volume" by M/A/R/R/S (#13 peak) * "I Live For Your Love" by Natalie Cole (#13 peak) * "Love Overboard" by Gladys Knight & The Pips (#13 peak)
EDIT: Looked at the 2/20/88 chart when creating this list. Take off Prince and George Harrison. I liked most of the debuts on 2/27/88 but none fall in the "love 'em" category.
This may be the only week that I have three favorites which peaked at #13 on the same chart...

My favorite songs from this weekend's "A" shows:
3/9/74... My Top 8: * "Bennie & The Jets" by Elton John (#1 peak) * "Love's Theme" by Love Unlimited Orchestra (#1 peak) * "Jungle Boogie" by Kool & The Gang (#4 peak) * "The Lord's Prayer" by Sister Janet Mead (#4 peak) * "Come & Get Your Love" by Redbone (#5 peak) * "Jet" by Paul McCartney & Wings (#7 peak) * "Lookin' For A Love" by Bobby Womack (#10 peak) * "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" by The Rolling Stones (#16 peak)
3/13/82... My Top 8: * "Harden My Heart" by Quarterflash (#3 peak) * "867-5309/Jenny" by Tommy Tutone (#4 peak) * "That Girl" by Stevie Wonder (#4 peak) * "Freezeframe" by The J. Geils Band (#4 peak) * "Leader Of The Band" by Dan Fogelberg (#9 peak) * "Spirits In The Material World" by The Police (#11 peak) * "Edge Of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks (#11 peak) * "(Oh) Pretty Woman" by Van Halen (#12 peak)
Both countdowns feature a few songs that are overplayed on radio today, some completely forgotten Top 10 songs, a few gems that didn't get to the Top 10, and some more obscure songs. It's rare that the 70s show and 80s show rate equally for me, but these shows do.

My Top 10 favorites from the 3/22/75 countdown: * "Lady Marmalade" by Labelle (#1 peak) * "Lovin' You" by Minnie Ripperton (#1 peak) * "Philadelphia Freedom" by Elton John (#1 peak) * "Shining Star" by Earth Wind & Fire (#1 peak) * "Jackie Blue" by Ozark Mountain Daredevils (#3 peak) * "Express" by BT Express (#4 peak) * "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker (#6 peak) * "Lady" by Styx (#6 peak) * "Emma" by Hot Chocolate (#8 peak) * "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" by Electric Light Orchestra (#10 peak) Wow the first time that my Top 10 songs all hit the Top 10! It's fun seeing when your own taste in music really synched with the rest of America, and when your own taste was very different from the rest of the country.
My Top 7 favorites from the 3/22/80 countdown: * "Call Me" by Blondie (#1 peak) * "With You I'm Born Again" by Billy Preston & Syreeta (#4 peak) * "Fire Lake" by Bob Seger (#6 peak) * "Him" by Rupert Holmes (#6 peak) * "Refugee" by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (#15 peak) * "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benetar (#23 peak) * "99" by Toto (#26 peak) Someone mentioned in another thread that early 1980 is a great time for songs and has a lot of variety. I agree that there are many very good songs on the '80 countdown but there are fewer songs here that I would turn the volume up to "eleven" compared to the '75 countdown.
