Hey, next week we get 1967, but not as a weekly countdown--instead it's the Top 40 Crossover R&B hits from 1967 in celebration of Juneteenth. I know Aretha Franklin will fare very well on the Countdown.

I just thought of a song actually it's an instrumental that was on the charts this week in 1967:"Soul Finger" by The Bar Kays-Perhaps that'll show up on next week's special survey.

I wonder if Dave will feature any bonus hits on next week's special. Since the songs were shorter in 1967, he just may to cover a 2 hour timeslot. The Supremes will do very well in this countdown, as will the Temptations and the Four Tops. Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell has a couple of hits as well.

It's a rainy afternoon in Virginia, so I thought I would list some candidates for next week's Countdown. Since it is R&B Crossover hits, I am thinking that he will use Billboard Hot 100 Chart positions--so here are the Top 15 of Billboard Hot 100 peaks during 1967:
#1s Respect, Love Is Here and Now You're Gone, The Happening total: 3
#2s I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Gladys Knight and the Pips), Soul Man, I was Made to Love Her, Reflections, Sweet Soul Music, Tell It Like It Is total: 6
#3s NONE
#4s I Second That Emotion, Expressway To Your Heart, I Say A Little Prayer (Dionne Warwick), Little Ole Man, Baby I Love You, Bernadette total: 6
#5s Your Precious Love total: 1
#6s Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie, Higher and Higher, You're My Everything, Standing In The Shadows of Love total: 4
#7s Boogaloo Down Broadway, Up Up and Away, Cold Sweat total: 3
#8s Funky Broadway, Close Your Eyes, All I Need, A Natural Woman total: 4
#9s Gimme Little Sign, I Never Loved A Man, In And Out Of Love total: 3
#10s Skinny Legs and All, Jimmy Mack total: 2
#11s Get On Up, Honey Chile total: 2
#12s Stand By Me (Spyder Turner), Pata Pata, I'm Wondering total: 3
#13s Everlasting Love, The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game total: 2
#14s Keep The Ball Rolling, It Takes Two, With This Ring, It's You That I Need, 7 Rooms Of Gloom total: 5
#15s Alfie, Here We Go Again total: 2
Total of Top 15 Peak Hits in 1967: 46 (hoping my Math is correct, and that I didn't leave any songs out).

If you are listening to the Countdown, Dave and Jeff Fox are going by the peak positions that I noted above. There are some that were left out for reasons I can't figure out-- Keep The Ball Rolling, Gimme Little Sign, and With Thig Ring.

I remember living close to New York, and WABC really played Expressway To Your Heart for most of the Fall of 1967, as it was also #1 on there. Another omission from this Countdown. Strangely enough, Jeff and Dave talked about Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, but they left out Your Precious Love. Tsk tsk.

Last post I promise: Jeff and Dave left out The Happening, which was a #1 song--yikes! Anyway, next week is what Dave called "dipping our toe" into 1970. Not sure if it's a countdown or a recap of all the songs in the first half of the year, leading into Casey Kasem starting AT40 the 70s.

It might be something similar to the show done the weekend of 6/27/2020, which was the top 40 songs from the 2nd quarter of 1970, right before AT40 launched. Doing the first half would be awesome.

I'm inclined to think that Dave will do the first half of his salute to the hits that were popular from January-June 1970 aka the pre "AT40" era.

Dave did this previously in 2020 & 2021-He used Dann Isbell's book "Ranking The 70's" as his primary source.

"Love Is Here To Stay"? Shouldn't that be "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone"?
