The next time we'll likely hear a 1967 countdown will be 7/22-The Turtles had fallen off the survey with "She'd Rather Be With Me". He did 7-22-67 last year on 7-17-21. Maybe wait a week longer and do 7-29-67?

"I Love Onions" has been played a time or two on "The Dr.Demento Show". I remember that song from "Captain Kangaroo". The puppet character Miss Frog would lip-sync to the first couple of minutes of that song. She stopped her singing right before the spoken-word third verse, which was never featured.

I'm hoping that he waits until the 8-5-67 countdown. That's the week that "It Could Be We're In Love" by the Cryan' Shames debuts in the Hot 100, and that would be a GREAT choice for a Staff Pick! That's a wonderful lost oldie that only peaked at #85 on the Hot 100, but spent four weeks at #1 on the WLS-Chicago Silver Dollar Survey. Dave Hoeffel would go bonkers over that quirky bit of trivia.

It's hard to believe a #85 peak for a song that was number one in such a heavily populated area as Chicago--that should have been enough sales to push it well in the Top 40 of the National Billboard chart.

Yeah, it's a major head-scratcher to me, as well. Even more so if you consider that the song's immense popularity in the Chicago metro area almost certainly spilled over into other Midwestern cities, such as Milwaukee, Indianapolis, St. Louis, etc. (Chicago doesn't exist in a vacuum.) If there's any consolation, the other two record publications were much kinder to the song. It reached #71 in Cashbox, and jumped all the way to #52 in Record World. It's altogether possible that Billboard's calculations were inaccurate in this case.

Just to name some: Beatles (multiple), Dave Clark Five (two), Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J, Kramer (two), Chad and Jeremy, those were from 6-13-64, and if Dave does 6-20-64, the Searchers. Quite a load, huh? Some adjustments depending on whether Dave does 6-13-64 vs. 6-20-64.

Chart date is in fact 6-20-64, as the first song being played is "Viva Las Vegas."

#30 - Beans In My Ears by Serendipity Singers. They pulled this from the air in some cities because kids were putting beans in their ears, thus annoying doctors? Wow - kids were stupid, even back then. Although, not sure why this song was a hit??? (Guess it definitely qualifies under 'novelty'!)
