On the countdown for the last week of December, 1961, #30 is by Solomon Burke, not Clarence Carter. You're absolutely right. In '61, Clarence Carter was just releasing his first single. I'll make the correction now.

Even though the chart is dated 1/4/1960--it's really hits of the late 1950's--as the new trend for the 1960's (dance records/female vocal groups)--wouldn't kick in until a few months later. Of course, until the British invasion totally changed the sound of the 1960's in 1964.

From 1982 until approximately 2002,WCBS-FM in New York used to have a weekend feature called the "Top 20 Countdown"-As I recall, their source material used to be the weekly surveys of local stations WMCA & WABC-Once WMCA switched to a talk format in 1970,CBS-FM relied solely on the WABC listings.

Two days later,1/22/68,"Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" premiered on NBC. That very week of Laugh-In's premier as a weekly series, one of the Top 40 debut songs was "Tomorrow" by the Strawberry Alarm Clock (their follow-up to "Incense And Peppermints"). And it just so happens that the first episode of Laugh-In featured the video to that very song. (I saw the episode years ago at the Museum Of Broadcast Communication in Chicago.) The video showed the band members gathered around their vehicle which had broken down on a busy bridge in some large city. It ended with them abandoning the vehicle and getting in a rowboat to cross the body of water. (The video had nothing to do with the lyrics of the song.)

THE 60s SATELLITE SURVEY...Using the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending 1/26/63
Yawn. The decent stuff doesn't kick in until the low teens. Even Dave remarks in one of his outros, "The British Invasion couldn't come fast enough for some of us."
The appearance of the group at #19 is something that would have prevented us from hearing a '63 show as recently as this time last year. Thank goodness they cleared up that issue.
