WYOY (Y101) had Casey's Top 40 from 1996 to 1998. In 1998, Casey Kasem returned to American Top 40. Also that year, WYOY replaced American Top 40 with The Weekly Top 40. But a few years ago, WYOY regained American Top 40.

There are no CT40 re-runs as long as I know and probably never will be any as the copyright still might be with the Westwood One, even though they destroyed all master copies of the show recordings.

Dial Global should try to hit up the collector's circuit, then, if the masters were destroyed. With the success of AT40 The 70s and 80s, they could try to market reruns of CT40. Maybe call it "Casey's Top 40: The Classics" spotlighting the show's 9-year run. (Calling it "The 90s" would be a bit disingenuous since the show's first year was 1989)
EDIT: Apparently iHeart owns CT40 now. Curious how that happened.

I thought it was Cumulus that took over the old Westwood, they own WW1 now. iHeart must've gotten it when Casey switched CT40 over to AM/FM and called it AT40.

Premiere distributes Casey Kasem content. No other company (Dial Global in your example) would be permitted to syndicate any type of Casey show.
The Shadoe Stevens/Casey's Top 40 era basically has nine unairable years of countdown archives for Premiere due to copyright/host issues. They just got lucky that those nine years aren't really in demand for what they are targeting with the 70s and 80s shows. It all kind of worked out.

I've stopped talking about who owns what. I feel like the story from those who should know changes every couple of years.

They are. Our classic hits station is playing things like Life Is a Highway, Fly, and has even dabbled into the early 2000s with Smooth and All Star. But there is zero demand for early to mid 90s on any format, and late 90s is still considered nostalgic "throwback" on CHR. And I really don't see that changing anytime soon.

Give it enough time. When the '90s are 30 years ago, terrestrial radio (what's left of it) may be singing a different tune.

Copyright refers to the possibility that Westwood One or its successors still own rights to CT40. They opposed Caseys departure for AMFM to restart AT40 in 1998 and possibly got rid of old CT40 shows. As a result they would probably not want CT40 to be rebroadcast at this time
Guest Host issues refer to AT40 with Shadoe Stevens. There is some concern that Premiere would not want to rebroadcast these shows because they want only the Casey shows to be broadcast.

I imagine after multiple mergers and buyouts, the hard feelings (or people with hard feelings) would be gone. If there's an opportunity to make money (either by selling the rights or syndicating themselves) they would probably take it.

Agreed. That said, there is no demand or money to be made in commercial radio for AT40 with Shadoe or 1990s Casey's Top 40.
