The criteria for 88 IIRC was made the top 40 in the 60s, 70s, and top 10 in the 80s. What was not good about that special? It's hard for me to like a countdown when the criteria is so ridiculous and contrived that when it's over you have a #1 equivalent to a Rick Dees All Request show. Why is the 80s top 10 and the other 2 top 40? I also seem to remember feeling very underwhelmed with the countdown in general. But the criteria alone was enough to make me not care.

The triathlon special is one of the strangest shows I ever heard and although I liked some of the music on it I didn't understand the purpose of it the methodology and didn't really care for it. It's been so long since I have listened to the giants of rock and roll I don't really remember it but I remember liking it much more than the triathlon show. I still have never heard the newcomers show and have heard some of the random 70s specials. Many of them I like for the musical selections, but the actual purpose behind them is bizarre.
One special I really do like is the top 40 of the 80s so far from 1987. There was also the 1983 editio but I wasn't as big on it because it was the top acts versus top hits. I like the book of records special and need to sit down and listen to the 80s version with Shadoe one of these days.

I listened to the Giants of Rock n Roll last week. It was a poll they took of DJs. They asked them which artist has had the most influence on popular music. Subjective, yes. But did they poll people who knew what they were talking about and it's easy to comprehend, yes!

I'm forcing myself through 7/3/82 right now. In a little over an hour, I'm already in the top 10. Up to number eight, to be exact.
Well that was quick. Now I'm going through the entirety of the debut show from 7/4/1970. Though I only know a quarter of the songs, I'm dedicating this one to Casey and listening to it all. Exception: Ray Stevens' "Everything is Beautiful". He is a contemptible person and I do not need to waste a minute of my time hearing him.

What do you have against Ray Stevens? He's a wingnut. I don't generally like to use that term, but the shoe fits him well. On topic, I'm listening to Dees' countdown from 6/28/1986 right now.

I don't like his current politics either, but that doesn't devalue his earlier work. In "Everything Is Beautiful" he calls for tolerance for all races, lifestyles, etc., and he bashes fat-cat businessmen in "Mr. Businessman", making his recent reactionary crap all the more jarring.

I have no qualms in throwing out the bathwater with baby included, mkarns. I guess Mr. Stevens devolved over the years.

I'm not listening to it at the moment, but I'm going to be listening to the Casey's Top 40 show from 7/1/1989 today (a couple days late but it'd been too hot the last couple of days for me to dig out the record*.)

Because he's learned extreme political behavior makes $$ from the portion of sheep on his side of the political sidle. Ask Fox News. MSNBC, Political talk radio, highly biased newz sites and blogs.

AT20 HAC 6/3/00. I definitely preferred the 2005-2009 AT20's with 1 LDD, the Book of Records/Whatever Happened To... revival, and only 3 segments an hour. This era is the overly robotic delivery, 3 robotic LDD's, and the trivia quiz

Starting my day with the July 4th #1's show from 1976 & then listening to where it all began. 7-4-70.
