AT40 from January 3, 2004 (presumably recorded December 2003), from WWIS, which I never had the chance to hear originally. If anyone did, then surely several of the rap/hip-hop hits weren't cut down to almost nothing back then? Meanwhile, several other songs had verses and choruses repeated artificially and unnecessarily.

I can somewhat see where you're coming from even if I wouldn't quite call it "musical suck". Me either now. That title goes to 2000!

^So 2000 is in the musical suck category? We are on different pages there. I heard the 6/24/00 show the other day, enjoyed it especially the songs that would become the #1 and #2 hits of the year plus there were only 2 rap songs I had to skip through.

Does anybody have the cue sheet for Casey's Top 40 from 3/17/1990?
TIA

Now finishing 8/21/82
Then: 1/1/00 - Y2K Show AT20 7/4/09 Tribute Show w/Mike & Kerry Kasem
The above will conclude my tribute to Casey Kasem I set up for his death. Then, I may start next weeks 40, 30, 20, and 10 years ago shows and try to listen to most, if not all of them today, tomorrow before baseball starts, and Sunday on the way to and from church so I can get some extended time away from these shows. I love countdowns and am grateful to have what I do, but so many all at one time over two weeks was a lot.

I just heard Casey say the Y2K show was only 3 hours long, not 4.

1/24/81. As sucky as the era is, I had a desire to listen to early 81 tonight. I must be in a self punishing mood

I remember when 1/31/81 aired a few years back and I remember it being a chore to sit through. 1/24/81 which is nearly the same, hasn't been bad. Maybe because the music is more familiar now with more exposure?

Finishing this weeks AT20 I'd listen to now. I'm done with all the shows id regularly listen to. Friday I'll listen to the 74 Top 40 Acts So Far which would actually be next weeks show but since it's July 4, it seems normal to listen to one. Then next week, only 4 shows to listen to. Oh happy day! I need a break!

I'm finishing 6/22/1985, which I started yesterday. Then, it's on to 6/29/1985. If time permits, I'll do 6/25/1977, too.

Maybe because the music is more familiar now with more exposure? I thought there was a downward spiral that started toward the end of the summer of 1980, but things really began to plummet by the end of November that year during which the countdown songs got crappier each week, and bottomed out around February-March 1981. Things started to gradually get better in April, and I have always found the summer of 1981 to be pretty good--the 6/13/81 show from a couple weeks ago I though was a really good show overall. Then around the end of Sept/beginning of Oct, things started to go south again until about April 1982. Then, the long gradual climb into the epic-ness that was summer of 1983 (and the mid-80's in general)... One weird characteristic if '81 shows: the Top 10/15 songs always seem to be the weakest part of the countdown. For the majority of '81 shows (save for maybe the August shows, which was the best part of that year), hours 1-3 (and especially hours 2 and 3) always seem to be the best in terms of the songs. It's as if the most popular songs were mostly lame songs.

You summed up the early 1980s perfectly, matt. I share the same opinion regarding the music of that era. Boring and conservative: The hallmark of the early 80s as a whole.
I'm finished with the 1985 shows. I forgot I had the third hour of the 6/30/73 show on my iPod, so I'm listening to that right now.

CT40 from 6/30/90 and I never heard Casey promote the special he did the following week, even in the closing when he said "Join me again next week when once again, we'll countdown the 40 biggest hits". Of course that was still done though not by him. I suppose the reason he never promoted the special was so that listeners would not get confused in case thier local station played the regular show instead of the special.
Found out in this show that the first rap song to hit #1 was "You Can't Touch This". Thought it was Vanilla Ice later in the year who did that and it was on AT40. Of course YCTH not being released as a single right away caused the discrepancy. And that first #1 rap song was by MC Hammer who was inspired to be a rapper by the first TOP 40 rap song...."Rapper's Delight" that he heard in junior high school.
