I know there is a "Ryan Seacrest is involved, it sucks because he took Casey Kasem's place and the show was completely revamped" mentality among many on here. Generally I steer away from it. The show is what it is. However, I was less than impressed with the year end shows this year. If you want to do a top 40 year end show, fine. Do one. But after #40 to already start playing extras?! Really?! And not "3 years ago this was #1 for the year" type extras...just random songs from this year, maybe others too. Look, if you have time to play random stuff, you have time to do a longer climb to #1. Dees's show did the same thing but I've never expected logic from a show that became famous for being "funny" and "illogical." I expect more from American Top 40.
For those who didn't hear it and are thinking 1 per hour, no....there were a total if I counted correctly of 7 each on both versions. And that does NOT include the optional extras. Count them and it's 11.

I counted 10 extras (including optionals) on both shows. There will be a different set of extras, and some different commentary, on this weekend's replay, presumably to actually give some point to playing the same countdown two weeks in a row.

Last year apparently the only difference was the start and end of the show.

I Heart Radio, AT40 channel, airs the new AT40 shows on Friday night around 6pm est. This week it's the New Years edition of The Top 40 of 2013. Last week it was the Christmas edition. The only change in the shows are different voice tracks of Ryan and different extras.

I'm sorry but I have to ask this question why in the world would you do the same show with different voice tracks. Please someone tell me the thinking of this one. I'm totally lost on this one for a reason or as Pink sings in the show "just give me a reason".

Doesn't bother me. The Christian countdown shows I've listened to run the same year end show two weeks in a row and have for years. And there are no different voice tracks, it's the exact same show. It's gotten to the point they do that for the Christmas music show too. Same show, 2 weeks in a row.

Exactly, why do a second voice track with different extras...when you can just rebroadcast the show two weeks in-a-row. They must think the listeners don't follow the charts or don't listen to the show every week or they are trying to fool the listener in thinking it's a new show still searching for a logical reason. Daly Download did a Top 60 (two part 2 YE countdown). The network's sister countdown Hollywood Hamilton's Weekend Top 30 did just one YE countdown Top 30 and has a guest DJ from a radio station, Lucas from KDWB, (strange a real DJ as a guest host) this week returning to weekly shows. Sirius Hits 1 kept the weekly shows going and produced a separate Top 45 YE show. Rick Dees went on vacation but did specials (different) shows. AT40 is doing their own thing that no one else is thinking about in the CHR/Pop countdown world. I'm trying to get into their mind and don't understand the thought process.

I always viewed it as their listeners are out of town and do other things during the holidays. So, catching it every week during that time may not happen, but if you play the year end show twice they can hear it one or the other. The Christmas shows? Eh, who cares. It's just music and honestly if you don't write the shows song list down every week you probably won't remember what played when.
Let's also not overlook the obvious. If they did a Top 100 would anyone recognize half the songs anymore? Are there even 100 different songs now that read the top 10-15? Not that this is the same show, chart, era or anything but I'm listening to the Top 100 of 1993 from AT40 now. REMs "Drive " which peaked at #30 is on this show. So that was 20 years ago, today can't be all that much better.

Well, presumably it garnered enough points to be there with its whopping #30 peak and 8 week (6 if you don't count the year end show weeks, they did a two part one that year or 7 if you don't count the frozen week) time there.
I didn't like the 93 show. When I have time I'm going to do a thread on it.

"American Country Countdown" also is re-running the Top 30 of 2013 this weekend. Same show, probably to give all hosts a break.

ACC's weekly countdowns were cut down from 40 to 30 songs three years ago. This may be the first year the year end show was only the top 30 (plus presumably some extras.)

Lucas was a jock on Z100 in the late '90's as was Hollywood Hamilton. So was Back Track host Kid Kelly...To answer your question on different voice tracks, Seacrest plugs in (his) Dick Clark's New Years Eve during the Christmas Edition and then on New Years he plugs in who performed at the Dick Clark New Years show. After Clark died Seacrest wanted to buy Dick Clark Productions. Does anyone here know if he did?

Didn't know he wanted to or if he did. I know people won't agree with this but he'd be the best person to do so. Personally I'd like to see him (or someone) buy Soul Train, Solid Gold, the rights to Americas Top 10, and pay Scott Shannon $.50 for Smash Hits and have all those shows under 1 banner. That's be some programming they could put on Axs or whatever that station he owns is in the morning or weekend time slots where older shows are usually aired.
