The first I found out about Casey Kasem's illness is from a comment on YouTube. I can see why Casey Kasem made the decision to retire and end his AT40 spinoffs after his 40th Fourth of July of his career. It's like we're now about to lose, yet again, another legend. A big time legend who helped make radio what it is to this day. I did notice some blunders on his final AT20 show. In 2009, he mentioned that "Alone" by Heart was number one 24 years ago at that time, when really it was 22 years ago at that time. It sounded like something was wrong for him to make such mistake. Makes me wonder if he has some form of Alzheimer's and not just Parkinson's? It's quite sad that this "non game show" family feud going on may result in Casey ending his life on a sour note. My prayers go to the Kasems and their friends and families. Makes me wonder if Premiere will cancel the retro rebroadcasts after Casey passes? I can see numerous radio stations airing tribute marathons of retro AT40 after he dies. I don't think Casey wrote the script on the final show, and I don't think Casey actually knew the songs he was playing in the YEAR 1987 so because he didn't, at age 77 in 2009, stop everything and exclaim, "You know what...didn't "Alone" go to number one in 1987" shouldn't be a sign that he might have had Alzheimer's. It means there was bad editing on the last show. |

I haven't really seen this here but I've seen it in comments elsewhere so before it starts I want to address it. Some comments I've seen accuse Jean of being a goldigger. I do not believe this for a moment. She has been married to Casey for over 30 years. In my limited knowledge on the subject, goldiggers don't do that. They tried repeatedly to have a child before ultimately they were able to have one, Liberty. To go through repeated miscarriages, etc as a couple takes love, devotion, and commitment. I have no doubt whatsoever that Jean loves Casey. His kids from his first marriage? No idea. As someone whose parents divorced multiple times, married other people, and believed I was hated by their new spouses in many cases for no other reason than my existence I can see how this might be the case. But I never questioned their love for my mother and father even though there developed a mutual hatred between them and I. We should not question Jeans love for Casey. I am sure she is more heartbroken over this than anyone else.
I also said this earlier in this thread and I want to reiterate it. For all we know, Jean is carrying out Casey's wishes that with his deteriorated condition he doesn't want anyone to see him this way anymore. He could also be in a situation where when he sees anyone he knows it may get agitated or upset and it does him more harm than good. Jean May have had to make an unpopular decision that she didn't want to have to but did so out of love, not spite. The point is we don't know what is going on. We've heard the older kids side. We haven't heard Jeans and we may never hear it. I am just saying there are quite possibly reasons for things to be how they are.

OldSchool, the only thing that would kill the Casey shows would be bad ratings or lack of interest from advertisers.

I rushed over here after I clicked on a link on Yahoo's homepage. I always crap my pants when an older celebrity shows up trending... My prayers are with him and his family. I too was alarmed when I saw Casey as the #1 trended topic on Yahoo's homepage. I was afraid he had passed away, although this situation is almost as bad. All my best wishes for him and his family. |

They quote Jean as saying, “Dad is no longer available.” That is from the newscast. Very disturbing to say the least. You can tell his kids and family are hurting big time. Casey and his first wife raised their kids with class and family values in mine. My prayers go out to Casey and his kids. I am thinking that Jean might have been the one that denied interviews with Casey after his show ended in July 2009. She also needs to know, you have the right to demonstrate as long as it's peaceful and orderly and if I didn't live 3000 miles away I would be there too for support.

Frankly,I don't understand why Jean Kasem is acting this way-Casey's offspring should certainly be allowed to visit their ailing father-She is clearly the villian or villianess in this case.

In my honest opinion , everybody there can afford the situation about Casey. Whatever it is, if he is in a terrible health situation or not.
There must be familiar facts that we´ll never know and we dont have the right to know.
I only wish those kids and their father will have time to be together , no matter what. Familiar relationships are bigger than a new marriage or so. People has to be flexible , especially in these moments. Later, it cant be the time of regrets.
