Hi,
Songs that debuted late in the year were often at a disadvantage because their points were spread between two years. For example "Hero" by Mariah Cary was # 1 for 5 weeks but it was only # 79 in 1993 and # 51 in 1994 because of when it peaked. What about the songs that NEVER made the top 100 of the year because of that timing. I was trying to think of which songs would fall into that category:
Where you Goin Now- d**n Yankees 1992-1993 Little Miss Can't Be Wrong- Spin Docots To Love Somebody- Michael Bolton -1992-1993 Groove is in the Heart- 1990-1991 Keep Coming Back- Richard Marx- 1991-1992 No Mistakes- Patty Smith- 1992-1993
What other songs can you think of?

It wasn't as a disadvantage of when it debuted, but I seem to recall "Jam" by Michael Jackson made the top 10 in 1992 and was not on the Top 100.

"I Can See Clearly Now" also didn't make the 1993 or 1994 year-ends, and that was a huge hit! I would've thought it would've made the 1994 year-end at least.
Similarly, Genesis's "Never A Time" (1992-1993) and Phil Collins's "Both Sides Of The Story (1993-1994) also missed out, but if I recall right, they both had quick runs.
Also, I seem to recall Seal's "Fly Like An Eagle" (1996-1997) being a rare case of a PPW-era song that made top 10 but failed to make either year-end chart.
Did Ace of Base make the year-end in either 1995 or 1996 with "Beautiful Life"? If they did, it must've been near the very bottom, as that was really split.

I thought of a few others:
Wilson Phillips - Impulsive (1990-1991) DNA f/Suzanne Vega - Tom's Diner (1990-1991) The Simpsons - Do The Bartman (1990-1991) George Michael - Freedom (1990-1991) UB40 - The Way You Do The Things You Do (1990-1991) Genesis - No Son of Mine (1991-1992) Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch - Wildside (1991-1992) Rod Stewart - Broken Arrow (1991-1992) Ricky Martin - Shake Your Bon-Bon (1999-2000) (on R&R; it made AT40's 2000 year-end during the time when they didn't use R&R)

I hope your referring to either Casey's Top 40 or the BB hot 100 because quite a few of the songs mentioned above did make the AT40 year end shows.
I'm 100% sure about the fallowing
Groove Is In The Heart deee-Lite 1990 and Shadoe mentioned it was the #1 dance track of the year Keep coming back - Richard Marx 1992 no Mistakes - Patty Smyth 1993 Never A Time - Genesis 1993 Impulsive - Wilson Phillips 90 or 91 Freedom - George Michael 1991 The way you do the thing you do - UB40 1991 no son of mine - genesis 1992 broken arrow - rod Stewart the bottom of the 1992 countdown and Shadoe mentioned it was written by Robbie Robertson
I'm not 100 % sure about Tom's Diner but I do recall Shadoe talking about the first bootleg single to make the chart and referring to Tom's Dinner in 1991

Yes, I believe Tom's Diner made the Top 100 of 1991.

I hope your referring to either Casey's Top 40 or the BB hot 100 because quite a few of the songs mentioned above did make the AT40 year end shows. Casey's Top 40 only used the chart performance from within the year's charting period (usually December-November), which is why so many songs were split between both years, and their performance in one year alone wasn't enough to get it on either year-end chart. Yes, these examples all refer to Casey's Top 40. Things like this never would've happened on AT40 (had they used a consistent cutoff for their year-end charts and either exclusively used Billboard or their own chart) as chart performance was always carried over into the next year if it peaked in the next year.

Also some songs charted on the Year Ends twice:
Just a few that I can remember:
On Bended Knee (1994 and 1995) All I Wanna Do (1994 and 1995) Please Forgive Me (1993 and 1994) Waterfalls (1995 and 1996) Semi Charmed Life (1997 and 1998)-Casey even referred to this in 1998 without mentioning "Casey's Top 40" instead saying "a second year end show". By the end of 1998, Casey had restarted American Top 40 and Casey's Top 40 had been taken off the air.

The thing about "Waterfalls" appearing on the YE 96 chart is I believe when I looked over all the charts from that year, the song was NEVER ON THE COUNTDOWN THAT YEAR!

Also pzimm7700 made a good point about Jam never making the top 100 od the year despite making the top ten. 1992 must have been a very competetive year. There were other songs like:
Human Touch - Bruce What Becomes of a Broken Heart- Paul Young Vibealogy-Paula Abdul that made the top ten but didn't chart on the top 100 of the year!

Also missing out from 1992: The B-52's - Good Stuff Natural Selection - Hearts Don't Think (They Feel) CeCe thingyton - We Got A Love Thang

Cece Thingyton LOL
On the flip side of this, "Close To You" by Fun Factory DID make the top 100 on Casey's Top 40 in 1995 and NEVER even hit the top 40 on the weekly chart.

Acutally, freakyflybry, I Can See Clearly Now by Jimmy Cliff did made the 1994 year end chart. Also, Shake Your Bon Bon by Ricky Martin did made the 2000 year end chart (the one AT40 used, not the R&R version)
The songs that didn't made the 2000 AT40 year end chart He Wasn't Man Enough, Toni Brazton I Think God Can Explain, Splendor Graduation (Friends Forever), Vitamin C Get It On Tonite, Montell Jordan
Other songs that didn't made any year end charts I'm A Slave 4 U, Britney Spears From AM to PM, Christina Milian
