"Automatically Sunshine" by the Supremes (#40 in 1972) sounded like it could have been done by the "Mellow Yellow" and "Sunshine Superman" artist Donavan. Or maybe the opening lines remind you of the Turtles song "Ellenor".

I've been watching NBC coverage of the convention. A couple of nights ago the live band (who are very good) played WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU and a reporter said it was R.O.C.K IN THE USA. Now, it happened again. Same two songs. Savannah Guthrie did the same thing. I guess they do sound alike - but seriously?

Earlier in the topic, someone New Radicals. I always thought that the lead singer sounded like Mick Jagger, especially on "You Get What You Give". Funny, the first time I heard that song I thought he was a dead ringer of ELO's Jeff Lynne....

Now that you mention it, I can hear some Jeff Lynne in there, but I've always heard a Bono and U2 vibe from "You Get What You Give" by New Radicals. PS-Interestingly, U2’s guitarist, The Edge, has expressed admiration for this song, calling it one he wishes he had written.

And the video is pure perfection. Danielle Brisebois, who was a cast member on "All In the Family" (final season, '78-'79) and "Archie Bunker's Place" (all four seasons, '79-'83) was the other member of New Radicals besides vocalist Gregg Alexander. She starts off their sole album, "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too", with a rather explicit spoken word exhortation that would DEFINITELY have caused 'Uncle Archie' to blow his top!

I CAN'T STAND IT NO MORE by Peter Frampton isn't very good, but/and it sounds like a Phil Collins song.
("but/and" depending on how one feels about Phil)
