Smokie: Living Next Door to Alice sounds like it could have been the follow up to Sylvia's Mother by Dr. Hooker

I stumbled across a song the other day from late 1987 called "Motortown" by The Kane Gang. It reminded of Donald f*gen's 1982 hit "I.G.Y." "Motortown" had a certain Steely Dan esq sound to it.

Another Boz Scaggs sound alike- "What you win't do for Love" by Bobby Caldwell.
"When Will I See You Again" by Honey Cone sounds so much like Corinne Drewery that I was pretty sure at some point Swing Out Sister had covered it- but no.

I think "Make Me (Cry)" by Noah Cyrus sounds just like Miley Cyrus.

INXS's 1993 hit "Beautiful Girl" sounds like John Cougar's 1981 hit "Ain't Even Done With The Night".

I think the current hit "Say You Won't Let Go" by James Arthur greatly resembles "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" by The Script.

With Leon Haywood being mentioned a few times, I am surprised no one mentioned this till now.
Listening to AT40 from 31 May 1980 right now on thefoxoldies.com. For the optional extras, they pick four NON-top 40 hits that did fairly well on the Hot 100. They played LH's "Don't Push It, Don't Force It" and I immediately sang the chorus of K&TG's late 1979 "Ladies Night" to the verse. Shameful copying of the 'feel' of the song, and simple chord structure. Shame on me for not remembering this till I heard the song.

friarboy, 'When will I see you again' was done by the Three Degrees, not the Honey Cone.

Earth, Wind, And Fire's "Can't Hide Love" reminds me of Gino Vannelli's "I Just Wanna Stop."

It occurred to me recently that the vocalist on "Cantaloop" by Us3 sounds a lot like Tone Loc.

New Birth, I Can Understand It sounds just like James Brown and even references his hit Get On The Good Foot.

A five-note sequence from The Rolling Stones' "Harlem Shuffle" reminds me of Cyndi Lauper's "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough". I prefer "Harlem Shuffle" more.

I think Asia's "Heat of the Moment" sounds similar to The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star".
