Holding at #86 on the Hot 100 on March 28, 1981, "Burn Rubber (Why You Wanna Hurt Me)" by The Gap Band couldn't accelerate fast enough to get past #84, where it peaked two weeks later. #1 on the Soul chart, and a jam that packed dance floors at every club in the country in 1981. A definite 'disco backlash' victim on pop radio.

The Gap Band made the top forty in 1982 with their hit "You Dropped A Bomb On Me". The Gap Band also had a top 40 hit before "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" the same 1982 year with "Early in the Morning".

In the 90s thread, a cover of a John Lennon song ("Give Peace a Chance") was posted; in this thread, we get a sequel to a Lennon song. U2 recorded "God Part II", an answer to Lennon's 1970 song "God", for their album Rattle and Hum; on the April 1, 1989 Album Rock Tracks chart, it was at its peak position of #8.

It debuted on the Top Tracks rock chart in November 1981, flew all the way to #2 in January, and for the week ending April 10, 1982, "Flying High Again" by Ozzy Osbourne was still aloft at #46.

"Show Me" by The Cover Girls climbed from #51 to #47 on the April 11, 1987 Hot 100; much like Black Sheep's "The Choice Is Yours" in the 90s thread, the song took another four weeks to climb a handful of notches to #44.

"Show Me" by The Cover Girls climbed from #51 to #47 on the April 11, 1987 Hot 100; I remember this song quite well, as my local Top 40 station randomly picked it up a few years later and played it so regularly that you'd have thought it was a top ten hit.

And it almost made AT40 territory. The Cover Girls wouldn't finally make AT40 until 1 year later with "Because of You".

Debuting at #79 on the Hot 100 this week in 1980, The Fools' "It's a Night for Beautiful Girls" only climbed to #67 during a four-week chart run.

Originally the B-side to "Don't Lose My Number", "We Said Hello Goodbye" by Phil Collins would appear on the soundtrack to the film Playing for Keeps and on the CD release of the album No Jacket Required. It entered the Adult Contemporary chart in April 1988; this week it was at #39, and would reach #34 in June. The soundtrack version was a remix (without the orchestra and with additional guitars) and received more airplay at the time, so it's included along with the album version.

Three song titles on the April 23, 1983 Hot 100 featured the same word, although one is pronounced differently than the other two.
At its peak of #65 for the second week, and six years before Bette Midler took her version to #1, Lou Rawls flew as high as he was going to go with "Wind Beneath My Wings".
At #67 and climbing, Saga's follow-up to "On the Loose", "Wind Him Up", only got to #64 before winding down.
At #72, "Reap the Wild Wind" by Ultravox reached #71 the following week before the wind was taken out of its sails.

Edited this post to add the third "Wind" song above that I omitted originally.
