I shudder to think what that show, which already had shortened versions of some songs, will sound like even shorter! Glad I have it already or i'd be quite upset! Actually, in this case, the editing can be fun to hear for its own sake. Like on "Ebony Eyes", in which the first chorus had barely begun before Casey's outro started. Maybe the shortest AT40 countdown entry I've ever heard.

An AT40 record unlikely to be surpassed by any iteration of the show. (Though, as an aside, recent Seacrest AT40s have had so many extras that they could probably fit #40-#1 into three hours without too much cutting.)

I just hope I can find a station running the full, four-hour version of the Top 100 of 1978. All stations are offered both parts edited to fit 100 songs in 6 hours (3 hours each part). There is no 4 hour version to air this weekend on any station. BOO!HISS!JEER! In that case, I might just end up ordering the show so I can listen to it in full. Moreover, since I'm working today, I can't listen to the entire show. I wonder if WLS is playing the 1978 show? I'm thinking that they probably will, seeing that they generally go for the show from the later year.

Concerning the Top 100 of 1978, just heard #96 Ebony Eyes - Bob Welch. I don't think the song ran 45 seconds before Casey started to introduce #95 I Can't Stand The Rain - Eruption. And the Eruption song didn't run for 2 minutes before the section ended. That was some brutal editing.
So during a break, I was able to listen to what I had recorded. After Casey finished introducing Bob Welch, the song played for only 22 seconds before Casey interrupted the song to introduce 'I Can't Stand The Rain'.
After Premiere took these 2 sections:
LOGO: American Top 40 #86 - Sweet Talkin' Woman - Electric Light Orchestra #85 - Get Off - Foxy LOGO: Hits From Coast To Coast
LOGO: American Top 40 #84 - Fool If You Think It's Over - Chris Rea #83 - Whenever I Call You Friend - Kenny Loggins LOGO: Casey's Coast To Coast
And made it into 1 section with editing down the long version of Fool, I had had enough, stopped my recording and deleted the mp3 files.
Fortunately, I own the vinyl records of this countdown but have never transferred them to my PC. Guess I'll need to do that to get the true countdown and not this poor abbreviated version being aired.

Too bad that part of the Top 100 of 1978 is no longer on YouTube (at least I can't find it anywhere). In that one, they played the full version of several songs, including "Three Times A Lady" by the Commodores. Yes, I'll definitely eventually be ordering the full version of the show.

I know it's been mentioned before, but I love hearing these 1970/early '71 shows for the MGM records commercials -- promoting singles that (mostly) didn't even chart, or did so just barely. "Theme From Medical Center" by Lalo Schifrin? Wow.

I was thinking about not even worrying about recording or listening to the 1978 countdown, until I read this thread.
Now, I am convinced I won't waste my time.

KCLH LA Crosse WI are playing 1970 As is WGTK. Right now, I'm tuned into CKOC, keeping my fingers crossed that they'll do 1978. However, I don't know if they will - they seem to be playing 60s and early 70s music...
