Blues travlers runaround.. I can't stand this song yet it was a MONSTER MONSTER smash.. Every radio station still to this day plays the heck out of this song . I can't get away from it I got resturants and boom, there it is . i hear it in every store i go in. The song is like 16 years old, but i never liked it. I just dont get peoples fascination with it. Its not a good song. The singing is wimpy, the lyrics are cheesy. It's just that in the music business theres no justice. There are a ton of really underrated great songs out there that never got the chance that this piece of crap got. or the exposure. Thats sad. i wonder how high this charted in 95. bet it got top 5 at least. Anyone else not like this song.. or do all of you love it??

I wasn't a huge fan of this song, and I agree that it was way overrated. I sort of learned to tolerate this song, as I knew that I'd be hearing this song at least ten times a day, but I never was crazy about it.
As for how high this song got - it peaked at #5 in August, 1995 and spent 48 weeks on the R&R chart. Would have possibly spent even more had that chart gone down to 50 positions during the beginning of the song's chart run (the song debuted in March and the chart expanded from 40 to 50 in May). The song may have only peaked at #5 but, due to its impressive chart performance, it ended up at #2 on the year-end chart, second only to "I Know" by Dionne Farris, which also spent a long time on the chart, so I'm pretty sure that "Run-Around" wasn't even close to being the first #1 song of the year not to hit the top of the weekly charts (on R&R anyway).

Now I know R&R went to the equivalent of Soundscan in 1994. So is "Dreamlover" the longest running #1 in the pre-Soundscan era on R&R? BTW, on AT40, the #1 song of 1993 was "Two Princes" by the Spin Doctors. How the heck did that happen? "Dreamlover" which was runnerup or even "That's the Way Love Goes" which was third seem a lot more like #1 songs of the year than that song. Admittedly I am not a fan of the song!

While "Dreamlover" and "That's The Way Love Goes" both spent nine weeks on top of AT40, "Two Princes" had an edge in Top Ten and Top 40 weeks (despite only spending seven weeks at #1). I'd bet there wasn't much of a point spread among the top three of 1993.

Dude I was a Blues Traveler fan back in the 90's...until this song came out. "Runaround" is perhaps the MOST overplayed song in the history of radio. The only other song I can think of that rivals it is "Smooth" by Santana and Rob Thomas. I greatly dislike both songs for that reason--the "at work radio stations"--the ones that do celebrity gossip news and those stupid contests throughout the day--absolutely wrecked both of those songs. And "Runaround" was far from BT's best song in the first place...

dukedeb, to answer your first question, yes "Dreamlover" was the longest running #1 song before the Soundscan era, which started on April 22. Ironically, the chart change that occurred that week caused "The Sign" by Ace Of Base, which had recently spent eight weeks on top, to rebound to #1 and tie the record.

Thanks hervard. Also ironic that "The Sign" blocked Mariah at #2 and stopped her streak of #1s at 10. At least the streak was already at 10 instead of just 9. That would have been a real drag! BTW, I'm assuming that if the change to Soundscan had occured a couple months earlier, Mariah still would not have made it to #1 as strong as "The Sign" was.

And at least Mariah would have missed #1 anyway, as her next song, "Anytime You Need A Friend" came nowhere near hitting the top (pointwise, anyway).

i left a bad comment on youtube under the video for this crappy song. and got blasted out of the water... for my rude comment. I got anywhere from how dare i trash this song.. to being called every name in the book. But it really is overplayed, i just dont know why , its really not a good song. And yes. blues traveler themselves even stated that its not one of thier better songs...But i bet we will hear this song at least 10 times a year no matter where we are. and iam always somewhere were i can't run. like a store or restuarant. Resturants are the one place you will always hear runaround. and they always gotta play it right when i get there. ha ha ha

Well, Breakfast at Tiffany's beginning with "you say we've got nothing in common" didn't exactly strike as deep either. In fact the first time I heard it that's exactly what I said after I heard that first line.

Ronnie, you're not the only one who hated (and still hates) "Runaround" by Blues Traveler. I hate the song also. If AT40 had continued beyond February 1995, it would have hit #1 hands down. The funny thing is, despite being a #5 hit on Casey's Top 40, it was the second biggest song of 1995 on CT40.
Not to mention that a lot of songs from that era gave me every reason to turn off the radio. Plus, I have to admit, the mid to late 1990s was a rough period for me, but thankfully came to an end in 2000. To be quite honest, I'd rather Rihanna and other upbeat songs of today over Blues Traveler.
