I have the countdown with "Charity Ball." It was the first AT40 show that Casey himself did not host; filling in for him was Dave "The Hullabalooer" Hull.
Sad to say, Hull did not do a great job. He obviously had little to no experience with hosting a syndicated show. The production was below par, as well.
Still, it was great to hear "Charity Ball," which I always thought deserved to be a much bigger hit.

Dave Hull worked with Casey at KRLA in Los Angeles.

Regarding "Just Like Heaven" - that song dropped out on the January 16 show, which was still being guest-hosted by Charlie Van Dyke. Thus, Casey didn't even get to mention the song.

The 12/22/73 show was actually the Christmas special. The year-end special actually aired the following week. In any case, it's a shame we'll never get to hear "Tell Her She's Lovely" on AT40.

BTW, have any of these songs been optional extras? I don't have access to that info. But I'm sure someone does.........

I know that "Just Like Heaven" was played as an Optional Extra, possibly one more than one occasion. Other than that, I don't believe so.

Of course, Casey was becoming somewhat inconsistent in his mention of droppers at that time. He didn't list them on the 11/21/87 show, but did list droppers on the 2/6/88 show. So who knows if he actually would have mentioned "Just Like Heaven" on the 1/16/88 show (and for the record, I believe that Charlie did mention the dropper that "Just Like Heaven" replaced, which was the Kane Gang's "Motortown" - however he did not make a big deal out of that show only having one debut song, as Casey did on 9/20/80 and 10/19/85).

Actually, I think that 11/21/1987 show was the last one in the first Casey era in which he did not mention droppers (this includes guest hosts as I have the shows during that time).

Really--I stand corrected. I wonder why he didn't mention droppers on the 11/21/87 show. That was something I always liked to hear each week.

I wonder if Wang Chung's "Hypnotize Me" will not be played on AT40: The 80s? I'm pretty sure it debuted on AT40 in July 1987, and I am not sure if it lasted only one week or two, and I am not sure if Charlie Van Dyke sub-hosted while such song was on AT40?

"Hypnotize Me" was on AT40 on 7/25 and 8/1/87. Casey hosted both weeks, so we might hear it.
