Hi,
This question is similar to another thread on this board, but I wanted to focus specifically on Casey's Top 40 circa 1994-1997. I lived in NYC at the time, and WHTZ dropped CT 40 in November, 1994. Over the next few years, WHTZ and WPLJ aired Dees inconsistantly and WHTZ aired the Hitlist. However we all know if aint Casey's Top 40, it aint a countdown! Here is my question. During 1994-1997, which markets aired Casey's Top 40? Rob Durkee even mentioned that despite three shows, Casey was only being heard in two of the top ten markets in early 1998. From the other thread, I know WAPE in Jacksonville and 92.3 in Toledo were consistant in carrying Casey's Top 40. I also know WTIC in Hartford carried CT 40 till 1996. Who else? Where could I have gone in those lean years to have heard Casey's Top 40?

OZ-FM in Newfoundland aired it right to the end of the WW1 era. It even aired the show with the uber-short-lived name "Top 40 Countdown" and transitioned to the second run of AT40 in March of 1998.
If I remember correctly, here is what the weekend schedule was during the CT40 years:
Saturdays:
1991 to 1/28/1995:
8:00 a.m. to Noon: AT40 with Shadoe Stevens Noon to 4 p.m.: CT40
2/4/1995:
8:00 a.m. to Noon: World Chart Show with Ace and Joe Noon to 4 p.m.: CT40
2/11/1995 to the CT40/AT40 Transition:
8:00 a.m. to Noon: CT40 Noon to 4 p.m.: World Chart Show
Sundays:
1991 to 1/28/1995:
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: AT40 with Shadoe Stevens
2/4/1995:
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: World Chart Show with Ace and Joe
2/11/1995 to the CT40/AT40 transition:
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: CT40
SIDE-NOTE: The World Chart Show was reduced to 2 hours as of January 2001, and Lara Scott took over the hosting duties sometime in 2002. OZ-FM dropped World Chart Show sometime in the summer of 2004 in favor of AT20, which would allow for my province to hear Casey Kasem's voice even for just a few more years. Not to mention that World Chart Show didn't do as well in Newfoundland, as there may have been no interest in music from other parts of the world unless it made the US top 40.

I also discovered that by the end of 1997 WQPO Q101 Harrisonburg VA had picked up the show. not sure exactly when they started airing it, could of been earlier than that. they stuck with the show thru 98 an 99 switching to AT20 sometime in 2000. after that they switch to rick dees CHR an then still later they switch to rick dees HotAC. today they air no countdown at all.

Another station was WXLK K92 Roanoke VA. they aired Casey sunday am 8-noon. Im pretty sure they aired At40 in the 80s an switched to CT40 in the 90s, or possibly even 1989. I remember having my gf @va tech record the show for me back in 96. I almost wanna say they still run AT40 in that same timslot today. I know they run rick dees on sunday nites 6-10pm.
Z102 in Savanna Ga aired both CT40 an AT40 back in the early 90s. 1 show aired sunday am, the other sunday nite @6, cant remember which aired where though

I remember that; I was in college in that area from 1993-97 and we got a double dose of countdowns from K92 every Sunday, with Casey in the morning and Rick in the evening. The chart wasn't always the same, as Rick was often a week behind. K92 (WXLK) has been top 40 literally since the start of the 1980s (New Year's Day 1980 they signed on with their current format.) I'd think that they started playing AT40 not long after their debut; it is listed in AT40's 1981 affiliate directory.** Previously in Roanoke the show was played by WFIR-AM (mentioned by Casey as a "Great Radio Station" in a 1979 countdown), but WFIR was in transition to a talk format by then. **It seems that K92 started playing AT40 about a year after it went top 40. Casey welcomed it aboard on January 31, 1981.

Z-102 in Savannah aired AT40 with Shadoe Stevens Sunday mornings from 9am-1pm and "Casey's Top 40" Sunday nights from 6pm-10pm; Scott Shannon's countdown show followed "Casey's Top 40" from 10pm-1am. Z-102 dropped both Casey Kasem and Scott Shannon in late August '90 and moved AT40 up to 8am-noon in September '90. WHTK (99.7) carried "Casey's Top 40" in Savannah on Sundays from 8am-noon from January '91-April '92. Then Z-102 picked up "Casey's Top 40" again in mid-August '92; at that time it aired on Sunday mornings from 8am-noon and they moved AT40 with Shadoe Stevens to Sunday evenings from 8pm-midnight. For a while in '93, Z-102 carried Rick Dees on Saturday mornings from 6am-10am; WHTK carried Rick Dees from July '88-January '93.

Some station in Georgia carried Dees's show Sunday night in 93. If the atmosphere was just right I could hear it in Jacksonville. That was the first time I had ever heard his show. It was magic something or another.

It was magic something or another. That would be Magic 105.9 in Brunswick. They also aired "Casey's Top 40" in the early '90s until they dropped it in May '95. Rick Dees aired on Magic 105.9 until July 2009 when they dropped it in favor of AT40 with Ryan Seacrest which airs Sundays from 10am-2pm.

Or was the WT40 moved to the daytime at some point?

Or was the WT40 moved to the daytime at some point? On Jan. 23, 1994, Rick Dees flip-flopped air times with "Casey's Top 40" on Magic 105.9; before then Casey aired from 4pm-8pm on Sundays followed by Rick Dees, Magic 105.9 also aired Rick Dees on Saturday nights from 8pm-midnight until the flip-flop. Therefore, Rick Dees aired on Sundays from 4pm-8pm followed by "Casey's Top 40" from 8pm-midnight. This lasted until Oct. '94 when Rick Dees was moved up to Sunday mornings from 8am to noon; Casey still aired from 8pm-midnight until he was dropped from Magic 105.9 in May '95. Then Rick Dees moved back down to Sunday nights from 8pm to midnight on Magic 105.9; by a couple of years later, Rick Dees also aired on Sundays from noon-4pm on Magic 105.9.

Only a theory, but maybe they switched when AT40's U.S. distribution was cut in 1994? They at least ended the 80s still playing D'Shadoe (they're mentioned in the 12/23/89 AT40).

Maybe you can answer this question, what time did CT40 air on Mix? I've always thought it'd be a good strategy to when the show leaves one station and shows up on another to run it at the same time the other had it on at least to establish to the audience you now have the show.
