The closest Premiere has done anything like what was suggested for an artist and a 'bonus'/B/whatever show was Prince when they offered the 8/4/1984 show on the weekend of April 30/May 1, 2016... a mere 9 days after his death. A few tribute Optional Extras here and there have been offered at the 11th hour (like, died on a Thursday morning and a tribute OE was offered that very weekend), and Premiere did offer an all-Aretha Franklin OE week following her death. There are few artists that I could see Premiere pulling out all the stops for when it comes to offering the 'Prince' (or even 'Aretha') treatment: Madonna, Elton John, Paul McCartney, maybe Bruce Springsteen, Barry Gibb or Diana Ross.

Agreed. As talented and prominent as Q was in the industry, there was no way Premiere would have moved heaven and earth to get a tribute to him on the air quickly. That said, I would not be surprised to find at least one OE in either next week's show or the one for the weekend of the 23rd-24th replaced by "We Are The World" (arguably, the most recognized work of his from an audience perspective) or perhaps "Just Once" since he shared label credit with James Ingram on that single. Here's a good rule of thumb for guesstimating Premiere's response time: How many weeks after Duke Fakir's passing did they include "When She Was My Girl" as a tribute OE? Or "Cupid" when Henry Fambrough died? You could probably expect a similar length of time, unless, as michaelcasselman says above, the artist is extremely prominent.

It's also slim and none for Premiere to air AT40 guest hosted shows (Premiere did 4 bonus guest hosted AT40 shows in the past - 1 with Dick Clark, 1 with Gary Owens, and 2 with Mark Elliott - all after thier deaths). Absolutely correct as to when and why ... and we still don't know how many stations even aired those bonus shows. (Premiere may have just released them so PDs could keep them in their personal archives, for all I know.)

After mentioning that Lionel Richie had gotten his 5th top 10 hit off of CAN'T SLOW DOWN and referencing the 4 top 10 hit ceiling, the very next hit was the 4th top 10 hit from SHE'S SO UNUSUAL. That's one of a few pairs of such hits. #1 and #2 and 23 and 24 are all from albums that had already or will generate 4 top 10 hits. The following week 2 songs that are title tracks from albums with at least 4 top 10 hits will debut..."Like a "Virgin" and "Born in the USA". And the last pair of sych albums are the only 2 non-soundtrack albums to generate 4 top 10 hits before THRILLER did so...RUMOURS and OFF THE WALL.

My local station for AT40:80's - WNIC Detroit - just flipped to Christmas music. What's the Christmas entry for this weekend? (Guess I will have to find 1984 elsewhere...)

My local station for AT40:80's - WNIC Detroit - just flipped to Christmas music. What's the Christmas entry for this weekend? (Guess I will have to find 1984 elsewhere...) Christmas "B" show is the AT40 Christmas countdown from 1971.
KRKE will air 11/17/84 as usual, 8am-noon/8pm-midnight (Mountain Time) on Sunday. We don't believe in all-Christmas, and we won't even play our first such song until 7:35pm on Thanksgiving.

11/17/84 had one of the occasional LDD’s where the listener misidentified the song: they asked for “Memories” by Barbra Streisand, though it was clear they meant “The Way We Were”.
A couple of weeks later there was another, when the listener requested Kenny Loggins’ “Welcome To Hard Life” (actually Heartlight).
