So I guess Premiere doesn't care about the special events like the annular solar eclipse on October 14th when picking the 80s show, however at least my backup prediction of 10/16/1982 as an A show was correct. Having said I do think the Top 100 of 1982 seems likely at the end of 2023/start of 2024 as an A show. Premiere doesn't take things like that into consideration when making the schedule. The only shows that seem to have a pattern with milestone years are the debut show of 7/11/1970, and Casey's final ABC show of 8/6/1988.

The story about Berlin's Terri Nunn was about her studying for a nutrition degree while recording and touring, which stemmed from changes in her diet after poor health as a teen. Being vegetarian/vegan, Casey may have appreciated her typical diet by then (except for "the occasional bite of sushi"), but not so much her bandmates who lived off Denny's. And while it wasn't a "death dedication", the first LDD, for "Hard To Say I'm Sorry", was a very serious and regretful one which I don't think was placed well in the countdown (after "You Give Love a Bad Name".)

I think possibly it may have been challenging to find an ideal spot in the countdown for certain dedications, if they wanted them spaced at least somewhat evenly apart, or during certain sections of the program. Of course the lesson from the previous year wasn't obviously learned. đ

Any word on the B show to go with this weekend's 1982 AT40: The 80's A show of 10/16/1982 yet? My guess: 10/12/1985, unless it's 10/15/1983 for the B show.

I predict 10/24/81 for the weekend of October 21. Since today is a holiday, KOLA likely won't post it until tomorrow. They have it up: it's going to be 10/19/1985. I guessed it as this week's "B" show, so Premiere might be throwing a curveball by having it be 10/15/1983 instead.

The number one single on AT40âs Top 100 of 1984 debuts in this weekendâs âBâ show. Ah so it must be 10/15/83 (Paul McCartney and MJ - "Say Say Say") I'd have welcomed hearing that on its own if we hadn't had 1983 just a few weeks ago. (10/15/83 is incidentally the first ever show I heard in this series, in 2007). I'm dubious about airing A/B shows that originally aired just a year apart, but two years ago this week Premiere did the same thing with an October 1982 A and 1983 B. At least this should please those who want to celebrate next weekend's eclipse with a countdown featuring "Total Eclipse of the Heart" on top.

I thought Caseyâs story about Terri Nunn (of Berlin) going to college to get her degree âby mailâ was amusing because of course there was no internet back then but I was thinking how much easier for Nunn it wouldâve been to do it online especially when youâre obviously touring. Oh well, hopefully everything worked out and she got her degree.
