Prediction for next show: 8/1/81 With so few eligible July shows it wouldn't be surprising if Premiere reached into the month of August this last week of July; so I'll go with this one last played by itself in 2013. 8/1/1981 was also the same day MTV was launched.

In which case it would have made more sense to play this show last year (for the 40th anniversary).

I don't know if being a top 10 Rock hit accounts for much (though it is Squeeze's one and only, reaching #8 on that chart), but the "oh, there it is again!" effect might - prior to its ubiquity in commercials, it was also remixed for the Reality Bites soundtrack in 1994, and we all know how well that soundtrack fared. The fact that it was sung by Paul Carrack on lead (unlike the other two) probably doesn't hurt, either.

And yet over the years, I hear that song more than their song that DID reach the top 40, "Hourglass". ...Or "853-5937". Squeeze had several great songs during their run, which is why it's always been a surprise to me that "Hourglass" and "853-5937" were their only two top 40 hits. They even had another single from the Babylon and On LP that was released in 1988 and didn't chart at all called "Footsteps" -- I personally thought that song was better than its two predecessors as well (I still like "Hourglass" since it's kind of quirky, but "853-5937" is sort of disposable). And I agree that "Tempted" really ended up becoming their signature song over time rather than their two top 40 hits. Always hard to gauge the listening public's tastes at the time...

Perhaps there was a bug or something like that when loading the program, they played "Sharp Dressed Man" right before segment 2 track 2, between #39 and #38; then "Human Nature" right before segment 6 track 2, between #27 and #26; then "The Safety Dance" in the correct place at the end of hour 3 and the same for "Total Eclipse Of The Heart".

Glad "Sharp Dressed Man" is staying as an OPTIONAL EXTRA for 7/23/1983, rather than being replaced by a song that would enter the Hot 100 the next week - "Tell Her About It" by Billy Joel.

Glad "Sharp Dressed Man" is staying as an OPTIONAL EXTRA for 7/23/1983, rather than being replaced by a song that would enter the Hot 100 the next week - "Tell Her About It" by Billy Joel. The "Sharp Dressed Man" music video continues the story of the "Gimme All Your Lovin'" video, and forms a loose trilogy ending with the video for "Legs". In the video, a male parking valet is remade as a star by a trio of women driving up in the Eliminator car; the band grants him the keys to the car. It hit #56 on Billboard's Hot 100 and #8 Mainstream Rock Tracks circa 1983, then also Hot Rock & Alternative Songs in 2020.
