And here are the "American Top 40--the 90s" extras: July 4, 1998: Hour #1: "Stay (I Missed You)" - Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories Hour #2: "Just Another Day" - Jon Secada Hour #3: "Kiss From A Rose" - Seal Hour #4: "Here I Am (Come And Take Me)" - UB40 July 3, 1999: Hour #1: "The Way" - Fastball Hour #2: "Vision Of Love" - Mariah Carey Hour #3: "Fields Of Gold" - Sting Hour #4: "Last Kiss" - Pearl Jam All of these are from "America's Top Hits", with Casey's intros. Of them, only "Last Kiss" fits the traditional optional extra pattern of a song moving toward the top 40 on the week featured, though "The Way" does appear in the 1998 chart. 1998 turns out to be one of those weeks where all five America's Top Hits were from the 90s - the one left out was the sole Top 10 miss, "Flood" by Jars of Clay. Actually, had it not been for the "You Are So Beautiful" LDD, everything about that show would have come from the 90s. For 1999, is "Last Kiss" pulled from a different show with an ATH story? (My bet would otherwise be that it's not and that instead, Larry Morgan would voice that extra.) What this week IS, though, is the week where R&R ditched their previous airplay-monitoring system and converted to using Mediabase - in the process, the chart also changed recurrent rules from 25/26 to 20/20. "Last Kiss", incidentally, made the highest debut on that week's chart at #43. As to the two Top Hits not heard there, they're both from the 80s - one will be heard in the 1987 B show at #15 ("Something So Strong"), while the other is in fact a LDD during the show ("Every Breath You Take"). Yes, there are at least two weeks that I know of - both in 1999 - where they picked a song to be one of that week's America's Top Hits AND the song was also a LDD in the countdown itself. (The other is 10/16, with "In Your Eyes" playing double duty.) The AT40 from 8/4/2001 may be a possibility, as "Last Kiss" was an ATH from that show. That was the closest date I could find to 7/3/1999 that Premiere may pull from to use. ETA: The story is about Eddie Vedder taking a trip to an antique mall near Seattle, and the song was born from a lost 45 he found there. He then recorded it with Pearl Jam. That may have been the end of the story, but one copy reached a New York radio station, and, well, we know the rest.

"Chariots Of Fire" replaces "Hot In The City" in honor of Vangelis, who recently passed away. Premiere optional extras for 6/27/87 remain the same as in 2016: "La Bamba" - Los Lobos "Seven Wonders" - Fleetwood Mac "Luka" - Suzanne Vega "Back In The High Life Again" - Steve Winwood Let's hope on Saturday night WVLI Kankakee plays the right AT40: The 80's show after playing for 2 weeks in a row 6/25/1988!

The 2019 airing of 7/12/80 was the B to 7/4/87 , which next weekend is the B to a 1982 A. (1987 reverted to standalone status in 2020, and 1988 did so a year later.) 7/12/80 was last an A in 2013, before 1980s shows regularly got B's.

7/12/80 has been played numerous times on the "AT40" channel from I-Heart Radio-When Casey announced the stations that had joined the "AT40" family that same weekend, the now defunct WNBC in NYC was one of the new affiliates-They carried the show until November 1983.
