Maybe being the guy to announce next week's shows is not a real enviable role? Hence my oft-displayed cynicism/bitterness, particularly when it comes to this very thing. Sure was nice to have that crystallize for me, I gotta say. (That's sarcasm on display if you can't tell.) Actually, first it was Paul, then me (then billyonaire). I'm not sure what led billyonaire to take it up, but jdelachjr2002 first asked Paul to take over, then asked me to when Paul became too busy at one point and needed to not have the burden. (I think at that point, Paul did take a break from here before soon returning - though like them, he's now gone away too.) While I had the role, it soon effectively became a race as to who would reveal first, often pre-empted by KOLA-wielding lasvegaskid. As this went on, it felt more and more pointless to try and stick with it, especially when the prevailing attitude around here seemed to be "who cares when or even how early we find out?"

Then there was the time someone dumped the entire year's worth of shows so we knew what was being played 10-12 months in advance...
I'm not sure there's any real 'need to know' much more than 5-7 days in advance {shrug} Odds are we all have our go-to station we listen to, and probably arrange our schedules on the reg to listen to the respective 70's/80s shows. You really don't win a prize for being 'first to know'.

I'm reminded of a discussion we had on here some time back regarding the advance notice of show selection and how it sometimes causes confusion on what's being played next. It's not a bad thing if the following weekend's selection isn't released yet. I totally agree with this. I'm actually hoping that they don't release the following week's selection anytime this week (or, at the earliest, Friday). I don't really like knowing what the show from practically two weeks in the future is when I haven't even heard the coming weekend's show (yes, I know I could just not read this thread, but it's one that I regularly read - force of habit, if you will). We usually don't know what the 70s show will be until the Monday before - no reason the same couldn't apply to the 80s one. But that is just my opinion and nothing more. Maybe Premiere asked KOLA not to reveal the date of the show as early as they have been lately?

Since I record the shows and then listen at my convenience, it's nice to know at least a few days in advance what will be played the upcoming weekend. That gives me time to get the recordings set up. I don't need to know what will be played almost 2 weeks in advance, before the coming week's shows even air.

Same here -- the only reason I like to know a few days in advance is to determine if it's one I need to record. Other than that, it's simply curiosity. But after listening to the classic shows for over 10 years now and hearing almost every one at least once, there isn't the same anticipation of what show will be next like there was when I first discovered this. But yeah, KOLA's announcements almost two weeks in advance seems a little unnecessary.

Just sent a Facebook message to KOLA FM about not yet posting the October 23-24, 2021 weekend AT40: The 80's show details on their site yet. Hope they respond, and I hope they are not about to drop the show after the October 15-16, 2021 weekend! Maybe Gary Springfield (program director) simply forgot to update his blog? Don't jump to conclusions so quickly. But if we want to have fun with this... maybe KOLA will play all Christmas music starting next weekend! Just kidding... BTW, Gary Springfield has worked at KOLA since 1995! That is awesome to see that kind of stability at a local radio station.

Even though that happened a few years before I joined this board, I'm certain it wouldn't have the same meaning or excitement today as it did back then, since all the playable shows in the series are now exhausted (save the one 1979 show on the 70s side). Sure, there's currently a good handful of them that haven't aired in the last 8-10 years, and Premiere has done well this year with scheduling shows that haven't aired since 2010 and earlier.
That all said, count me in amongst those that don't want or need to know what the scheduled show is for the weekend following this upcoming one. It's not going to make or break my world. There's much bigger and more important things out there that fall under that category.

Plenty of stations not owned by iHeart flip to Christmas each year.

KOLA, incidentally, has disclosed the 1984 date on their site. So no they haven't dropped the show or anything. (They proved helpful to me last Sunday night when I was able to switch right over to them after WQSR's show ended and hear the first several songs in the second hour which WQSR somehow skipped.)

Since we're getting another 1984 show just four weeks after the last one, it looks like the chance of getting 12/22/1984 (aired once in 2010) is pretty big.
